Problems with syndication
Some time ago, we were having problems with Facebook. We followed some instructions and set up a second test blog. With that we included a comment asking people to share. This was a test. Since then, unfortunately, whenever our blog is automatically syndicated to Facebook, it posts twice. The first is just a perfect, normal post. The second comes with the message, which isn’t even readable as all the words don’t appear. We cannot find any way to get rid of it. We’d be grateful for your kind assistance as it makes the syndication look bad. Thanks.
The blog I need help with is conchcreative.wordpress.com.
First, wow. I see a lot of photo work all day every day and I really adore yours!
Second, I see both of your blogs and I think that since you have two different sites that are similar and that are both set up for the same Facebook account, that might be the problem.
Assuming that you won’t ever use it, you should log in to the conchcreativephotography.wordpress.com and delete it using these instructions:
Please keep in mind though that deleting these accounts are permanent and so if you think you might use it again, we might want to find a different solution!
Let me know!
Hi amightywp. Thank you so much for your kind words! I thought that might be the case, but I was a bit panicky about hitting the delete button. I’ve followed the instructions and hope I haven’t deleted my main blog. Yikes! If you like our work, please do check out our Facebook page. We’d love to see you there so we can share some of our beautiful Belize with you. Thanks!
No problem! Let me know if you run in to any other issues!
Hi amightywp again. Well, we did as instructed, got rid of the other blog. I’ve deleted wordpress and networked blogs from my Facebook apps and it’s still coming up with the text and blog automatically on our Facebook page. The text is the real problem for us. We love sharing our blog on Facebook, but not the text that we can’t get rid of. If you can do anything to help – I’d be ever so grateful. You might want to look on our Facebook page to see exactly what’s going on. It’s very weird! Thank you!
So to clarify, you would prefer to not have your blog auto-post to Facebook at all?
I went through our system’s back end and saw that there was a lingering setting showing that you were at one time linked up to Facebook via the Publicize service. I was able to remove that connection and I don’t see any references anywhere else, so assuming that is what you wanted, you should be good!
If you’d like, you can try doing a test post, and sit ready on your Facebook page to delete anything if it gets automatically posted. I apologize for this inconvenience!
Thanks again amightywp. We’ll wait until we do another blog and see how it goes. Assume no news is good news. Have a great day!
Poo. Amightywp, please help. It’s still doing it. I just deleted it from Facebook today, but we can’t seem to stop that auto posting problem with the attached text. Please help!!! Thank you. Colette
I’ve got my developers looking in to this issue now. While they’re going through this, I wanted to ask you, do you have any other apps which are connected to your Facebook.com account? Anything which automatically posts there?
Also, do you post this content anywhere other than WordPress.com?
amightywp. I’ve looked everywhere for other apps. There’s none on Facebook and I can’t find any on Word Press. So, not that I know of, but I can’t remember the instructions I followed when I created that text in the first place. It all had to do with problems with Facebook algorhythms. I”m not particularly tech savvy so I just found a help site and followed instructions. Thanks so much for your help!
Thanks for the additional information, we’re still looking into this.
Thanks for writing back!
We have not been able to track down anything that we’re sending to Facebook, but we still might be able to solve this!
Facebook requires that anything that is published to your profile be approved to be published. So if you could make sure that you’re logged in to your Conch Creative account (not your personal account, you will probably have two accounts, your personal one and your business account!), and then click on this link:
It will take you to a page which has a list of all of the applications which have been approved to post to your Facebook page. Just click the little X to the right of any of them which you don’t want them to post anymore (such as WordPress.com, etc) and it will stop being able to post items on your page for you!
Thank you for your response. I followed your instructions and it led me to a dead end I’m afraid. I have a screen grab of what happened but I’m not sure how to attach that here. I’m cutting and pasting the content that I got with the link you provided for your reference. Please see below. There are no applications attached to our business page nor are we aware that it is possible to even have application attached to it. Please do help as this is so annoying and please know that I know you are trying hard to help and doing your best. Interestingly, I’m now getting emails from Networked blogs saying they are unable to post my blog. I believe that’s because I removed all apps from my personal page. Our business page is linked to my personal page. I now have deleted all apps except those to do with calendars. Thank you!
Third Party SitesEdit
Facebook does not give third party applications or advert networks the right to use your name or picture in adverts. If we allow this in the future, the setting you choose will determine how your information is used.
You may see social context on third party sites, including in adverts, through Facebook social plugins. Although social plugins enable you to have a social experience on a third party site, Facebook does not share your information with the third party sites hosting the social plugins. Learn more about social plugins.
Ads & FriendsEdit
Everyone wants to know what their friends like. That’s why we pair adverts and friends — an easy way to find products and services you’re interested in, based on what your friends share and like. Learn more about social adverts.
Here are the facts:
Social adverts show an advertiser’s message alongside actions you have taken, such as liking a Page
Your privacy settings apply to social adverts
We don’t sell your information to advertisers
Only confirmed friends can see your actions alongside an advert
If a photo is used, it is your profile photo and not from your photo albums
You should be looking at the Facebook account that you used to create your business page. As you may know, a business page cannot exist without it being tied to an individual account. In many cases, people create a totally different Facebook account to tie it to the business page, which might be what you did.
John Smith owns the business John Smith Plumbing Emporium.
His personal Facebook page’s name is just “John_Smith.”
John might create his business/Fan page off of his personal Facebook page, “John_Smith.”
Or, like with his finances, he may have wanted to keep the two separate, so he created a new Facebook account called “John_Smith_Biz” which was then used to create the fan page “John Smith Plumbing.”
So what you’ll need to do is make sure that you’re logged in to the correct account and go to that same link. There will be something there or else nothing will be able to be posted automatically. Facebook would not allow it. If there is not, the only other alternative is that someone else is logging in to your account and posting things on your behalf.
Oh! I almost forgot! If you’d like to send us a screenshot, the way that you can is to upload it to your Media Library and then paste the link back here.
This page has some helpful tips for taking screenshots:
Hi amightywp. Yes I have indeed used the account I used to set up my business page and it has no apps on it except for calendars. You’ve got the text pasted above. I’m happy to put up a screen shot if you feel that would help. Thanks again for all your help. Colette
I will be happy to take a look at your screenshot! If you could, please include the entire page (including the location bar at the top of your screen), however I absolutely believe you that there are no apps on there except calendars.
This means though that there would be no way for us to post items to your Facebook page because Facebook would block any posts from being made if there was not an approved app in that list. It could mean that someone is manually posting items or that there is some error going on with Facebook.
Hi awmightywp, I’m going to send you three screen shots. One of what gets posted to our page as I’ll make a test post. Two of what happened when I followed your instructions and three of my apps. That way you can see that it’s nothing we’re doing at our end. Thanks so much. Give me 5 minutes or so. Thanks again for all your help.
Hmm. Let me get back to you on this now. I’m wondering if something along this process has worked as my ‘test’ blog didn’t do it this time. I’ll definitely be in touch with all of the above if it happens again. It’s the weirdest thing! You’ve been a star and thank you to wordpress for the fantastic customer service. Colette
