Pros & Cons of Privacy
Hello, my fellow WP bloggers. To those of you who are experienced, in your opinion, what are the pros and cons of having your blog accessible to search engines? When I first started last year, I had that option on, and I saw some site that had linked my post to their site. Somehow that scared the crap out of me lol. Anyway, I’ve been blogging for about a year and a half now, and I’m more comfortable doing it so I’m considering opening it up again. What do you guys think?
The blog I need help with is uniquelyawesome.wordpress.com.
If you wish to receive backlinks to your posts from fellow bloggers in posts of their own, and your wish your blog to achieve a PageRank, then the only way that can take place is to change your Privacy settingson the blogs to allow search spiders to index your blogs content, so it will appear in search engine results.
As far as Privacy goes you are in the driver’s seat. You do not need to share any sensitive material in your blog posts that you do not wish to be indexed and to appear in search results.

My blog here on wordpress is accessible to search engines but it does not contain anything private anyway, just folktales. My private blog, not hosted on wordpress but on lj, is not accessible because I do like to feel absolutely free to rant, fangirl and squee in privacy. Also I have a really rare name and a really rare topic for my phd/subjects at university so I’m always paranoid that people will track me.
I guess, privacy is different for everybody as is the attitude towards it?
Thanks folks! Still thinking about it.
