Obvious pros would be widgets/plugins not avaiable here – but what about other pros/cons?

    Thanks in advance

The blog I need help with is laperm.wordpress.com.

    WordPress.com:

All the updates, upgrades, backups and such are done for you. All you really have to do is worry about blogging. You also have a staff of over 100 working day and night to squash bugs, improve code and features and introduce new goodies. Sites at wordpress.com also share in the major search engine juice that wordpress.com has. That is something that no self-hosted blog can match.

    WordPress.org (self-hosted):

You have complete freedom to do whatever you want, but you are responsible for all installations, all backups, all upgrades and all troubleshooting. If something goes wrong you have to figure it out and fix it, and something will go wrong at some point. I’ve had a rash of people contacting me to fix their sites after they installed a plugin or theme and their entire site did a white screen of death and they couldn’t get into the dashboard and all visitors were seeing nothing but a white screen.

WordPress has made it much easier to self-host sites, but there is still good bit more work to be done and YOU are your staff and support team.
