Published author with 'real' blog: can I link to Amazon as an affiliate?
Advertising outside of WordAds at WordPress.com, http://wordads.co/ including affiliate links, is not allowed. For full details, please see:
The only exceptions are in italics:
Affiliate marketing blogs: Blogs with the primary purpose of driving traffic to affiliate programs and get-rich-quick schemes (“Make six figures from home!!”, “20 easy steps to top profits!!”, etc). This includes multi-level marketing (MLM) blogs and pyramid schemes.
- To be clear, people writing their own original book, movie or game reviews and linking them to Amazon, or people linking to their own products on Etsy do NOT fall into this category.
I’m sorry I clicked the wrong button so there are no italics above. Note the bullet point as that’s were the italics were meant to begin.
Thanks, timethief. But I still don’t understand. *techy numbskull* Do I therefore fit into the category that IS allowed…?
I flagged this thread for a Staff response.
Basically, to sell your OWN book, yes. To sell other books, maybe. That’s what you’ll have to wait to hear back on.
Do I therefore fit into the category that IS allowed…?
Yes, timethief is spot on. If you’re not adding the affiliate links to the sidebar for your book, it should be fine.
Timethief: thanks for flagging it for a Staff response. Look forward to what they think. Thanks everyone else for your time and expertise.
I just wanted to double–check if you saw my above reply. Does that help? :-)
Hi bryanvillarin. Thanks for your comment. Being a techy numbskull (see above) I’m afraid I don’t understand what you mean. I want to add the affiliate link to the “about” page on my blog, but I can’t copy the code that Amazon has supplied. If you could explain in Slow Capital Letters what I should do next, I’d be much obliged!!!
Can you please post the code that Amazon has provided?

You won’t be able to embed flash-based Amazon affiliate links on WordPress.com blogs. You will need to use a text or image-based affiliate link option, which Amazon should provide.
pcrumm: hi there! Thanks for this advice. I’ve just emailed a request to Amazon for a text or image-based link option instead of the flash-based one I’ve been given. I’ll probably be in touch again when I receive it as I’ve never done any of this before!
There IS a text based option. Go to your Affiliate log in, search for the product, ie your book, then click to get the link. JUST the text link; there are usually four tabs: Picture, text, text and image, and something else I forget. Just get the Text link. And be sure to put it in the Text editor, not the Visual editor.
I have 121 books (amazing but true) on Amazon, so I have put together a slideshow widget that I want to use on my blog. I can’t find a text-based option for the slideshow. Advice?!
Yes: give up on the slideshow. NONE of the Amazon widget codes will work here.
You can use plain old links, to each product at a time.
Crikey. I may be some time… Thanks so much for your advice. I’ll come back if I’m still stuck!
Yes, you can have Amazon affiliate links.
