Hi Quick question. From what I read we can’t upload a theme we find and like due to the whole security thing like in the past, which I understand. My question is, if I buy webhosting from one of the recommended sites on wordpress, will I THEN be able to use the themes I find on my own site? In otherwords upload the css and php files to my own host and run wordpress thru it?
The blog I need help with is dangerouscurvesdesigns.wordpress.com.
I think it’s important to know that wordpress.com is a WP-MU blogging platform. The themes here > Appearance > Themes were all originally coded to run on free standing wordpress.org software installs. In order to run on wordpress.com software they were “adapted” and some features were eliminated as this is a WpMU blogging platform we cannot access and edit the underlying php and html in the templates. The themes we use here are all derived from shared templates.
My question is, if I buy webhosting from one of the recommended sites on wordpress, will I THEN be able to use the themes I find on my own site?
If you hire a web host and download free software from wordpress.org your can then use any of the hundreds of themes available to wordpress.org bloggers. You can then edit the templates and CSS sytlesheets to suit you. Then your can export the contents out of your wordpress.com blog and import them into your wordpress.org blog.
However, as many bloggers lately seem to be confused about this I want to make it clear that the theme you have on your wordpress.com blog cannot be exported and then uploaded into a wordpress.org install.
WordPress.com is a hosted blog service. You do not have to download software, pay for hosting or manage a web server. WordPress.com does not allow FTP access and permit uploading themes or plugins. WordPress.com bloggers have code restrictions and advertsising restrictions, and only some types of blogs are allowed at WordPress.com.
WordPress.org is free software. You can install themes and plugins, run ads, and edit the database.< /blockquote>
