    reader doesn't load

The blog I need help with is

I have IE9. I've tried all the suggestions and they don't work. What's the fix, if any, for this? It's really annoying.

  3. Hello there,
If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at please try upgrading or switching first.

Note: If you are using an IE9 browser in compatibility mode that makes it render as IE7 and IE7 is not supported. To disable see >

If you are running one of the browsers and versions listed at please do these four things:

    1. Try clearing your browser’s cache:

    2. Make sure that you have third-party cookies enabled:

    3. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.

    4. Try enabling HTTPS:

If it’s still happening, let us know exactly which browser (and version of it) you’re using by checking here if necessary and also post any error reports you get.

i already did all those things and it does not make a bit of difference. I can try IE10 but as it's still in the buggy stage, I'm not sure that's a good idea. Why is it that WordPress has this problem?

  5. I don't recommend using IW10 for the reason you state. However, the assumption that has a problem does not dovetail with my own experience. I am using an old computer that's barely limping along. The operating system is windows XP and I'm using IE8, Firefox 17 and Chrome 23 without any issues at all.

  6. Would you care to try using either Firefox 17 or Chrome 23?

  7. I'm having the same problem. Using Chrome 23, not getting the reader at all. No problems till Dec 23rd.
On Firefox 17.01 I can get it but jumpy and very slow, so virtually unusable.
Done all the other things you suggest but still no joy.
Everything else is fine. Just the reader that's the problem.
    My site is

I was using Firefox, but I don't see why I need to keep switching OS for one site. It is WordPress. For whatever reason, if it's to deliberately force people to use certain OS or their programmers just don't know how to make it compatiable across the board, I don't know, but the Reader will not work with IE9. Why can't this be resolved?

  9. I don't know what it is that's causing this. I don't experience it using IE8, Chrome 23 or Firefox 17. There aren't over 35 million posting here with the issue so how does it point to being a issue?

In the past we discovered some bloggers weer running Ghostery or DNT (do not track) browser add on-ons or pop-up blockers that were triggering this behavior. Maybe that's the case now or maybe not. This thread is tagged for Staff attention. Please subscribe to it so you are notified when they respond.

I am having the same problem and three different computers -- it makes no difference which browser I use (Firefox, Chrome, or Safari). The problem started yesterday.

  11. Glad I'm not the only one experiencing this problem with Reader. It started this morning on the 23rd and I had no previous trouble prior to today. Everything online works fine for me, with the exception of the Reader.

  12. Yes something is wrong with wordpress it's been like this for at least a day

No Ghostery, no DNT. It is WordPress. It is the only site I have a problem with... As for yesterday, I'm wondering if they couldn't handle the overload with everyone home, or they are trying to integrate more commercials into the site, which is fine with me, but get it together soon if that's the case.

I know I'm not the only one with this problem. So what's the fix?

  15. truffledogtravels

same problem here (running with safari browser and IE on another pc). Furthermore I do not understand why I get the message "You can now manage the blogs you follow in the Reader on the home page." in my dashboard when I click on "Blog I follow" instead of being redirected instantly. This makes it really cumbersome to see other blogs in the reader. We are trying to share here!!

  16. For me the Reader has slowed right down and my computer will freeze if I stay there. Tried it on two computers - one is windows 7 the other xp. Not as bad on the xp which has more ram :)

  17. My reader loads but consumes all my CPU and memory. This started only yesterday, and only with the reader in wordpress.

  18. Same as above - reader loads, then upon reload (i.e. searching for new posts perhaps?) it eventually consumes up all memory, freezing my machine. Tried in Firefox, Safari and Chrome. First noticed it yesterday.

  19. Same problem for me also. It started yesterday.

  20. Yes, same here, started yesterday (and I already posted) on two different browsers. I'm happy, that other people experience the same so we might get over 32.000 or what was the number of posts needed and someone might see it's a wordpress issue. ;)

  21. Add me to the list too. Reader has been a problem since yesterday and now just doesn't load at all. Thankfully it's Christmas, and so WP can get stuffed.

  22. Got also these problems since the last 2 days. Using Safari. What's wrong?

  23. The title of this topic is misleading if the comments are read in total (sorry, yourothermotherhere, no disrespect intended). What seems to be the problem is that Reader is loading too much and locking the page up. I can't even scroll through the short group of the blogs I follow and I've given up on going into topics such as Art and Photography because the result is always the same... a locked up page. I also notice that the views and likes to my blog: have dropped off dramatically since the 23rd and I'm wondering if the problem with Reader is responsible.

Timethief... I note that this thread is tagged for Staff Attention and I thank you for that. Hopefully, resolution of this situation will be in the near future, but I recognize that it is a holiday season as well.

Well, I haven't changed the number of blogs on my Reader, so that's not it.

There are actually 3 complaints here that may or may not be related. One, the Reader cannot be used with IE9. Why doesn't WordPress fix that?

Two, the Reader isn't loading, or loading so slow that it's useless in almost every OS. That tends to point to the problem being WordPress.

Three, everything in WordPress now is down to a crawl if you can get it to work at all. At least that's how it is for me.

There is a definite problem going on and instead of getting better, it's getting worse.

I would have more patience with this if WordPress stated what the problem was and that they are working to correct it.

  25. yourothermotherhere

Yes the flash player is a problem too. I was just in Firefox and watched what programs were running in the Task Manager and the flash player just kept hogging all the memory going in circles. Please someone at WordPress fix this and then fire the person who thought this was a good idea.

  26. Firefox just told me there's a broken script on the reader page. I just tried to reproduce it, to get the link of the script, but honestly it's too painful to wait. I was able to read the reader yesterday with IE8. It was reloading often, but at least wasn't blocking.

  27. yourothermotherhere

It's amazing to me that we have to go through any of this to use WordPress. And then it still doesn't work.
