Reader unable to comment

    One of my regular readers reports sometimes getting the message “Sorry, this comment could not be posted” when trying to post a comment. Why is this happening? I don’t want my readers driven away by problems like this.

    The blog I need help with is piedtype.com.

    P.S. And yes, he says he was logged into his WordPress account while he was trying to comment on my blog.

    Hi there,
    Working through intermediaries is not the way to go when one has a support issue. Please have the person with the WordPress.com username account experiencing this issue post into this thread.     It might also happen if he puts too many links in one comment, in which case it will be held for moderation.

    @raincoaster I don’t think so. I’ve warned readers about that and his comments are not being held for moderation. I suspect it’s something on his end, but I’ve no idea what.

    While it’s definitely easiest to troubleshoot directly with your reader if he’s able to join us here, there are a couple of things he can try:

    – make sure third-party cookies are enabled, as timethief mentioned earlier. Visiting this page will tell him whether that’s the case.

    – to rule out a browser-specific issue, try a different browser.

    – try clearing the browser cache.

    – try turning off all browser extensions/add-ons or running it in safe mode. We can give him specific instructions if he posts here and tells us what browser and version he’s using.
