How do I add a section in the sidebar that contains recent comments?

It’s not possible, you will have no access to the sidebar.php file to add anything to it except what is offered by (archives, blogroll, categories, meta, etc)

To add what you want would require a plugin which is a feature that may or may not be available in the future.

I moved my blog from a hosted version with my own WP installation to in order to minimize the administrative effort, and I’m still happy with my decision. One feature I’m really missing ist the possibility to display the recent comments on the sidebar (I saw it is possible to display them on the WP default Theme, but I would love to go on using regulus, which I still find the most suitable theme for my needs).

This feature allows the readers as well as the blog owner to follow the ongoing discussions at a glance and I noticed a flexion in the comments (but not in the number of readers) since I switched to this platform, hence I’d really wish I had it also here.

In my former blog I used to use the “Recent Comments”-Plugin, which is very easy to use and highly customizable. Is there any hope to get it available at in the future?
