recycling blog names
I’ve checked the support pages for other information on recycling/reusing/reclaiming blog names, but it seems the last verdict on this was the statement “It is possible that, in future, we will consider reclaiming blog names that have been stockpiled by spammers and squatters and never used…” This was last posted in 2007, so I was wondering if 4 years later anything has changed? The blog name that interests me has been around since 2005 and has no posts, no pages and no information on how to contact the owner.
The blog I need help with is itroy.ca.
I’m sorry nothing has changed, except for the addition of the ability to purchase a domain name and domain mapping upgrade. In that case it does not matter what the underlying root blog URL on the .wordpress.com sub-domain is.
Thanks timethief. I’m aware of the mapping/upgrade options and have used them before …and may use them again. It be great if, in the event WordPress decided to do something on this, a waiting list could be set up. Failing that I suppose a general announcement would be enough to get everyone looking.
I sincerely doubt that there will be any waiting list established and that any Staff time will ever be devoted to such an activity. However, that being said, I do extend my best wishes re: your suggestion. I’m flagging this suggestion so it gets moved to the Ideas Forum where we post threads containing suggestions for Staff to consider.
If someone has registered a blog name you’re interested in, leave them a comment on that blog asking if they can hand it over to you. As long as the email address they registered with is still active, the owner will get your message.
