Redirecting Traffic to a New URL

    I have a blog I’ve been running for a while. It gets good traffic and has good placement in the search engines. I need to change the site’s URL without losing more traffic than I have to, and I’m not sure of the best way to do that. There seem to be two options:

    1. Map a new domain to my existing blog, and make it the primary domain. From the info on the FAQs, it sounds like people searching for the old site name and posts would be redirected to the new pages as long as I keep the old domain active.

    2. Buy the Redirect upgrade.

    Obviously #2 seems the more “official” option, but I can’t figure out what it would accomplish that #1 doesn’t, and it would cost more since I’d have to also buy and map the new domain name. Any ideas what the best move would be?
