Registered Domain with but want to use my domain for seperate site

  1. thingssimplyinspired

When I started my blog on I bought a domain through That domain was and is currently being used for my blog.

However, I created a shop on for my jewelry line and want to use the domain for my shop. I still want to keep my blog but change the domain to (I already bought that subdomain for $12 through

The problem is I don't know how to move to bigcartel

I already tried redirecting the site but that messed up my blog and I didn't want that so I changed things back.

I am confused and am wondering if because I didn't register my domain with a company like "godaddy" that I cannot move it off of wordpress.

I came across the topic of transfering domain registrars, but I am not sure what that means. Would that mean transfering the domain owner ship from to or something of the sort?
    Please help!

The blog I need help with is

  2. Does this help? Domain management

If you’ve registered your domain through and now want it to point to a blog or website hosted elsewhere then you can do this by updating the nameservers.

  3. Just a word of caution. Your content has been indexed by search engines like Google. When you reomove domain mapping for your blog all those URLs for the content under the domain name URLs will be broken. The blog reverts to the old URLs. Then all those broken links are there for months on end in the SERPs (search engine page results) until the search engines like Google index them again under the URLs and clear their caches (3 – 6 months). The result of clicking the domain URLs will be a 404 (page not found).

This is the second instruction that bigcartel tells me to do:

"Step 2: Add a CNAME with your DNS host

Create a CNAME record from wwwto Depending on the DNS host you use, you may be able to add this CNAME record yourself, or you may need your host to add it for you. If you aren’t sure, get in touch with your DNS host."

I have no clue what this means. I do know that my DNS host is since I registered the domain with them, correct? But they don't have a support phone number, so I haven't been able to get an answer to whether or not I can add a CNAME record myself or if I need the host to add it for me. There's no answers to this on the forum.

Also I don't know what exactly a CNAME is... doesn't give the names of their servers as stated in their support forum

"My DNS host wants to know your IP address / DNS servers

You don’t need to use our IP address or DNS servers, just a simple CNAME as described in our instructions. A records (IP Address) are particularly bad, as IP addresses are subject to change over time, which can leave your shop inaccessible."

Because I don't know bigcartel's server name I don't beleive the above links will work.

  5. In case I confused you above and to be sure I didn't lead you astray I have flagged this thread for Staff attention.

I'm still waiting for a staff member to help me..I've even sent them an email but no answer. I feel a little ripped off because I bought a domain with WordPress and they customer support doesn't even exist. Is there a way I can just transfer my domain purchased on wordpress to godaddy?

I entered CNAME to my DNS code in wordpress 24 hours ago but nothing happened. is still being directed to my wordpress blog and not my store.
