Hallo, i got a qeustion about the Regulus sidebar.
I like very muck this theme, i customized mine, but i saw that another wordpress user got this strange sidebar for the same theme
    http://pierg.wordpress.com/about/
As you can see he gots 2 columns in the sidebar for positioning his widget, instead the default is like mine, with only 1 column
    http://m4zi.wordpress.com/

I asked him and he told me that is the default layout.
    How could this be possible?
    Kind regards
    Massimo

i remember before the regulus theme update by its creator the sidebar looks like that – i had it like that once too, but i edited my sidebar because i don’t want to put any links or blogroll. have u tried resetting it to default and see if that might work?

The double sidebar is the default setup without the widgets. When you throw in the widgets, the theme creator has it set up to display only one column in the sidebar.

Not sure why Ben did it that way as you can do two side bars fairly easy. (We’ve got enough themes that do them)

There are a number of reasons that widgets are only in a single column.

Since I have no way of knowing what widgets people will use and in what order, and since new widgets are being made all the time, I thought it best to just use 1 column.

Some of the widgets would look very bad squashed into the two column format I use in the default settings so I’m afraid it had to go.

For example the calendar, and the Google search box could not be squashed into a two column layout.

Wow, everyone loves the Regulus theme.

I am using the Regulus theme, and have a question about the widgets in the sidebar. I’ve added “Links” to my sidebar, but they don’t show up on my site. I have about 6 websites in my blogroll. Any idea why this wouldn’t work?

binarymoon – I’ve been using Regulus since starting my blog & I love it. Would you consider making the 2-column an option?

That’s because the link is mispelled. I’ll fix it in a second.

Learn, have you assigned the links to a category? There’s a FAQ on it as well as a checklist.

Thanks Dr. Mike. That was stupid of me not to search first, but I don’t remember ever seeing that problem on my self-hosted WordPress blog so I guess I immediately thought there was somemthing weird going on with the template.

Ain’t that the truth. Even a basic widget like RECENT POSTS would get really messed up in a double column layout. I actually had to bypass that setting for my new self-hosted blog in order to fit more chicklets in less space.

More chicklets – Great Gobs! ptvguy have you no shame? And don’t give me that for the convenience of others line – they’re cute and you’re a chicklet collector, right? [She said with a very broad smile :D]. But I diverge. I do concur with your point about double sidebars that format would not suit me at all. But, a sidebar that could be updated and linked would. :)

LTD, just to let you know, we’re not running the WordPress code base here but WordPress MultiUser and there are a number of differences. I’ve got to remember that some times as well as I’ll answer a question here thinking of the solution in normal WP and it’s something different here with MU.

I can get the two columns if I remove all of the widgets. But how do I get something like http://noodlesoup.wordpress.com/ with “Calendar,” “Recent Posts,” and then the two columns of Categories, Archives, and Links?

    ok… my bad…

upon removing all of the widgets,

in Presentation -> Current Theme Options:
Sidebar Options will have 7 checkboxes instead of the previous 2.

I like the regulus theme, its one of the only ones that enable you to customize the header image. I wouldn’t mind being able to change some of the fonts and a wider range of colours.

range – consult the FAQ and search fonts – there you will find instructions to do exactly what you suggest. It’s always good practice to consult the FAQ rather than coming to the forum before you look there. Also note the wordpress documentation contains a wealth of info too.
