Removing title of a page on Theme Twenty Eleven

    How do I remove the title of each page that appears underneath the Header photo? The title appears in the tabs already… I do not need for it to appear again, especially that it is SO BIG! I’ve looked at several entries for this problem in this forum, but it doesn’t address my particular problem with this particular theme. Help! Thank you :) Here’s the site:

    The blog I need help with is

    The tab in the top navigation menu have to be the actual page title, so here’s what you can do:

    Edit the pages and delete their titles.
    Go to Appearance>Menus and create a custom menu. Select your (now nameless) pages from the Pages module, click Add to Menu. Click the arrow at the right side of each page module to open it, type the title in the Navigation Label field. Click Save Menu, select the menu from the Theme Locations pulldown, click Save.

    Here’s the link for instructions for creating a custom menu.

    Timethief! Thank you so, so much… I managed to remove the title from the page and create a custom menu as per your instructions, but now there’s a lot of white space between the header photo and the beginning of the text below. Anyway I can reduce that amount of white space?
    You are brilliant! A huge thank you :)

    PS: So sorry that I logged on with another blog name – Chrome default :(… The answer above is from the same person who asked the original question.

    We cannot edit templates and themes on free hosted blogs. This is a multiuser blogging platform so all blogs wearing the same theme are using the same template. Only Staff can access those files and edit as every edit they make affects all blogs wearing the same themes.

    I don’t help with CSS editing. At present the only Volunteer who does so on a regular basis is thesacredpath . Maybe that space can be eliminated by purchasing an annually renewable custom design upgrade and undertaking CSS editing or maybe not. I’m sorry but I don’t know the answer to that.

    I get it thank you again! I’m thinking of purchasing custom design upgrade anyway to change fonts etc… I will look into it.

    You’re welcome.

    P.S. On a personal note I’m visually challenged and I wish more bloggers had more “whitespace” on their blogs for ease of reading. I also wish more used smaller images. These days it’s apparently assumed that we are all viewing blogs on monitors the size of drive-in movie screens, despite what the stats indicate. :)

    To reduce the empty space, switch the editor to HTML and paste this at the very beginning:
    <div style="margin-top:-66px;">
    and this at the very end:
    Change the number to adjust the space.

    Panaghiotisadam, I inserted the code and it did reduce the amount of white space a bit. I changed to 33px.

    timethief… I totally agree with you about white spaces and simplicity, hence why I chose the Twenty eleven template.

    There is a major glitch happening with the site this morning. On the Laurie page, a new title appears “Previous Post”. I’ve gone ahead and re-created a custom menu… But the problem appeared again! How do I fix this?

    A million thanks to you both for your help. This is my first time using WP forums and I’m blown away!

    The “Previous Post” issue is a bug, comes and goes, has to do with the absence of a title, not with the custom menu. Edit your pages and put this in the title field (minus the space after the ambersand):
    & nbsp;
    That’s the HTML entity for a space (I had to separate the ambersand from the rest or you’d see the result instead of the code, that is, a blank space.) This way the system won’t perceive the pages as untitled so it won’t insert the absurd title.

    Wow… I cannot thank you enough for your help dear panaghiotisadam! I was about to purchase a premium template so that I wouldn’t have to deal with so many issues! It would have been too bad, since all I need is a super-simple static site.

    I inserted the code as per your instructions and it worked perfectly! Thank you, thank you, thank you…

    You’re welcome!

    I don’t think purchasing a premium theme would make any difference. This is a new bug that’s probably due to the recent WP updates, it was reported by another user as well who was using a different theme, and it has to do with the deleting of the titles (which you’re not really supposed to do).
