Removing widgets

  1. I'm trying to remove an archive and meta widgets from my homepage sidebar but when I go to the widgets section, there is actually no widgets chosen for the sidebar. There is nothing to remove, but those two still appear. Any ideas on how to get rid of them?

The blog I need help with is steven77.wordpress.com.

  2. Howdy -

Let's update that theme and then you should be able to customize your Widgets. The theme you are using is now retired and quite old.

Take a look through our showcase at wordpress.com/themes/ You'll be able to activate your new theme choice right from the theme preview.

Let me know if you have any trouble with this.

  3. Thanks for the quick reply. I tried to do it that way but it only lets me activate the themes in my blog, which is steven77.wordpress.com. However, it doesn't give me the option to activate it into my website (I registered the domain with bluehost and then installed wordpress). When I click on Appareance, then Themes and go to wordpress.org themes all the ones available seem to give me similar problems. Some of them don't even give me proper previews.

  4. (I registered the domain with bluehost and then installed wordpress).

That site is not on our wordpress.COM servers we cannot help you with it.

WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

This is wordpress.COM support. We provide support only for wordpress.COM hosted sites. Our support docs do not apply to
    (1) local installs of wordpress.ORG software on your own server or
    (2) wordpress.ORG software installs on paid hosting, and we do not provide support for them at wordpress.COM.
    (3) sites linked to wordpress.COM accounts with the Jetpack plugin so they display on the My Sites wordpress.com account page.

That support is provided at https://wordpress.ORG/support. The wordpress.ORG login link is here https://login.wordpress.org/ If you do not have an account yet then click Create an account https://login.wordpress.org/register/ and if you have lost an account password click Lost password? https://login.wordpress.org/lostpassword/

Some Jetpack solutions are here http://jetpack.com/support/

Others are in the Jetpack support forum at WordPress.org
    http://wordpress.org/support/plugin/jetpack

However, if help cannot be found at either one then they can file a Jetpack support ticket here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/?jetpack=needs-service

WordPress.org support docs are at https://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page
See also https://apps.wordpress.org/support/ for app support.

  5. It seems like I have made a terrible mistake then. I knew the difference between .com and .org and really wanted a wordpress.com site. The link in bluehost only said install wordpress and I thought I was installing wordpress.com. Is there a way to reverse this?

  6. Yes. No worries.

You can map your domain to your WordPress.com account. That will tell the internet to load the WordPress.com site with your specific domain. Here's how you do it: https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/

If you don't have much work completed on the current site you can just start the WordPress.com one and don't need to really worry about transferring it over.

Here are the instructions for making the transfer: https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-from-self-hosted-wordpress-to-wordpress-com/

You'll no longer need a hosting company once you have mapped your domain over to WordPress.com. We take care of the hosting.
