replacing old blog with new by renaming blog addresses

i am having difficulty when attempting to replace an old blog with one that has been redesigned. i renamed the old blog “” to “”, then I tried to rename the new blog “” to “”. I received the message “Sorry, that site already exists!”. I then tried renaming the “” site again and this time selected the option to delete the name forever, thinking that this would free the name for reuse. This did not work either. Is there a wait time for a name to become available again or is there a way someone can help me perform this rename?

The blog I need help with is

Did you use this process to change the URL

    7. The final option presented on this screen allows you to discard your current address. This option will permanently disable the address and you will not be able to reuse it. Only select this option if you are sure you will not use the address again. If you want to redirect traffic to the new blog, you can keep the address and purchase the Site Redirect upgrade.

I’m so sorry but deleted blog URLs here are not recycled. See >

You can register another blog with a similar name.

Or you can register a domain via a domain mapping upgrade and it will not matter what the underlying address is.

what I can’t understand is this: I first renamed the old blog (let’s call it “A”) and DID NOT delete the URL., but when I tried to rename the new blog (let’s call it “B”) to “A”‘s old name it said the name was already in use. That’s when I figured that I had to delete the old name to free it up for the new blog. Now I am being told that I have to buy an upgrade to redirect the old name (which is supposed to be deleted) to the new URL. Isn’t there any way to fix this situation?

I’ll flag this thread for Staff assistance. Please hang in there.

Since you checked the option to permanently delete, so that blog address is no longer available.

do i have the option to redirect to

or is there an option where i can upgrade the site to a “.com” URL and redirect and to this new .com URL?

Since the blog address is permanently deleted, I’m afraid those aren’t options.
