RSS for private/protected blogs?

Does anyone know if there’s a way to allow friends to RSS my wordpress if I set privacy to “I would like my blog to be visible to only users I choose” (up to 35 users)?

For example, I just went to my own Google Reader and tried to subscribe to my wordpress’s RSS but was unable to.

    Is there a workaround?

    Thanks in advance

The blog I need help with is 1219son.wordpress.com.

There is no RSS feed available for private WordPress.com blogs, for obvious reasons.

WordPress should have an option for that. I have 5-10 friends I share this blog with but noone wants to actually login to a 3rd party site (e.g., WordPress) just to check to see if I’ve updated my blog. It’s much more convenient for them to just click their Google Reader and check everything that way.

How hard would it be for WordPress to provide an RSS link that’s accessible to people who I’ve invited to see my blog, and they can paste that into their Google Reader / other RSS programs?

If an RSS feed is published, it is public meaning anyone can see it, even those NOT on your list of users. It has nothing to do with wordpress, it has to do with how RSS is structured, and until the RSS standards are modified, and the changes implemented, the option of having private feeds will be just a dream.

Heck, the standards people and the feed reader services can’t even all agree on whether it is proper to have the closing slash mark on the feed URL or not. Some services choke on feed URL’s WITHOUT the closing slash, and some choke on URL’s WITH the closing slash.

The short answer is: it is impossible for WordPress.com to do what you are asking.

Understood. Another way to put it – is there a way to make my WordPress public but not have a destination / HTML site? Where I could use WordPress tools to make and edit posts but not allow those posts on my site (e.g., 1219son.wordpress.com).

The blog would essentially be just an RSS feed …

None as far as I’m aware that would have an RSS feed. You could do posts and just save them as drafts, but there’d be no RSS feed and nobody but blog contributors could read them.

Why don’t you just make an email list and do that? You can put pictures or whatever in there.
