I am really frustrated. Twice now I have completed a blog post, go to save it so that I can preview it for editing and it disposes of my post. It saves some earlier version of the first few minutes of my writing.
When I press save, it asks me if I’m sure I want to do this. I confirm and it opens a new, blank posting page. My work is gone. I have to start all over. What’s going on? I’m using Firefox, as it won’t work in Explorer on my computer. (Neither will many other things, hence Firefox.)

The blog I need help with is theresalwaysasolution.com.
That’s certainly frustrating. Can you let me know a little more about the message you’re being prompted with? When you’re trying to save a draft using the “Save Draft” button shown here, you shouldn’t be prompted with a “Are you sure?” message:
However, when you’re editing a post and then go to leave the post to visit another area of your site, you will receive a message similar to this:
If you click “Leave this page” on that screen, it will not save your work. You’ll need to click “Stay on this page” and click “Save Draft” to save the post. Does that make sense?
It has happened both times when I click the “Save Draft” button. But I get a message similar to the second link you posted, only that’s google and I’m using Mozilla Firefox. Both times it has happened, the last thing I did before saving was to copy a pic from the internet and paste straight in as opposed to saving it, uploading it then inserting from my media library. Perhaps it doesn’t like that? Both times I’ve had to re-write it and I save at regular intervals and then add the pics in the same way and it works fine. Does it have some kind of time out when I’m taking too long to save?
It shouldn’t time out if you take too long in between saving drafts. In fact, the autosave feature should be saving your post every two minutes:
One thing that might be causing issues is the copying and pasting of the image. It may be pasting over some of your content. I just tried in the WordPress.com Editor, and I am unable to paste an image directly into the content. Does this issue only happen when you paste images into your text or also when you manually add them through the Media Library?
No. It hasn’t happened when I added them from the Media Library. Though most of those posts, I copied over from where I wrote them in One Note and pasted them in and then found I had to hit the “clear formatting in order to format it properly. I didn’t write those posts straight into WordPress. I guess I will have to add the image first or through the library to avoid the problem.
When you paste from OneNote, are you using the Paste as Text option explained here?
I believe the issue is with the copying and pasting of images from one application to the next. You’re welcome to create the posts in another application and paste into WordPress.com. However, it seems like the Editor works best when you upload images directly to WordPress.com rather than copying and pasting them from elsewhere.
Can you try that with your next several posts and let me know if you’re having the same recurring issue?
Will do! Thanks for your help Jeremy. I was unaware of the Paste as text option too, but found a work around. It’s nice to see a company that actually offers real support! Thank you!
Not a problem! Please let me know if you run into any additional issues moving forward.
