second blog – same email address – other username – is that possible?
I would like to start a new blog, not under the ‘contrast10’ ID. How do I do that? Preferably I would like to use my main email address to manage it, but if that’s necessary I will use another one I use much less. The wordpress software keeps sending me back to that username — in fact even when I tried to register it with my secondary email. I don’t understand how to deal with that.
The blog I need help with is contrast10.wordpress.com.
There appears to be an issue with registering new blog URLs under existing username accounts at this time. I have tagged this thread here https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/why-cant-i-create-a-new-site?replies=3#post-1599900 for Staff attention. Please post into it and subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.
Just to confirm, you’d like to start a new blog but not have it linked to your username contrast10. Is that right? (In that case, it’s a bit different from the other issue timethief linked to, which is related to creating a new blog linked to the same username you already have.)
Each WordPress.com account has a unique username and email address. If you’d like a new blog linked to a different username, you’ll need to set up a new WordPress.com account with a different email address.
To do that, you can log out of your current WordPress.com account. Then, go to this link to sign up for a new account and blog: https://signup.wordpress.com/signup/
Please let me know if I can provide any further help with this. :)
Yes, that was the question.
At this point I am totally confused and more than a little frustrated. Since I started my attempts to do this very simple thing yesterday, I have been told by the system about 100 times that my username or password is wrong. I just had to change it one more time just to answer you and that took another ten frustrating minutes since the WordPress software doesn’t allow me to be ‘weak’ even if I feel like being ‘weak.’
Dear happiness engineer, honestly, I do not know at this point what WordPress account(s) or blog(s) I have or what their username(s), password(s) or domain name(s) are. I would love to receive an email telling me the answers to these questions. I am about ready to give up on building my site with WordPress since there are so many alternatives.
Can you tell me what blogs I have and don’t have?
How is it possible to make people so miserable in the name of ‘security’?
Hi there, let’s see if I can help clear up the confusion. :)
The only blog linked to your username contrast10 is this one: http://contrast10.wordpress.com/
You can check your account settings (your username, email address, etc.) on your settings page here: https://wordpress.com/settings/account/
You can also see a list of your account’s blog on your My Blogs page here: http://wordpress.com/my-blogs/
If you have other accounts or blogs, those are completely separate from your account with the username contrast10. If you’re having trouble accessing a WordPress.com account you set up, you can get help with that here:
Click the “Need More Help?” link next to the button, and fill out the form with as much information as you have about the account and/or blog. Our account recovery can help you regain access to any other accounts or blogs you have.
Please let me know if you have any questions about that.
Thank you, dear happiness technician, your help is much appreciated. :)
And yes, I still have a question. It appears that my attempts to create a separate account and blog with a second email address have aborted and that WordPress does not recognize yet that second address. But when I try to go to WordPress to restart that process, the system assumes I am contrast10 and locks me into that username. How do I start fresh with WordPress in order to create that separate account?
To create a separate account, you’ll need to sign out of your contrast10 account on WordPress.com first. (You can do that by going to WordPress.com, hovering over the icon in the upper right, and clicking on “Sign Out” in the dropdown menu that appears.)
Once you are signed out of your contrast10 account, you can go to this link to sign up for a new account: https://signup.wordpress.com/signup/
Please let me know if you run into any trouble with that, and I’ll be happy to help further. :)
“Once you are signed out of your contrast10 account, you can go to this link to sign up for a new account: https://signup.wordpress.com/signup/“
No. Maybe other people can, but not me. I carefully signed out before I tried your suggestion. It does the mambo shake, and then it says:
“ERROR: Invalid email or username. Lost your password?”
How can they be invalid since that second account doesn’t exist as you yourself confirmed to me???
So I tried to change the password since that seemed to be the only move left. Then it said:
“I’m sorry, but we weren’t able to find a user with that login information.”
Of course. It can’t change a password on an account that doesn’t exist. But if it doesn’t exist, why does the system call my information invalid?
After you logged out of WordPress.com did you clear your browser cache and cookies? http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clear-your-cache-and-cookies
The error message you described is the error you’ll get if you try to log in to WordPress.com with a username or password that doesn’t exist yet. Can you please confirm that after you logged out, you visited this link to sign up for the new account:
That address will be in your browser’s address bar, and the signup form will look something like this: https://cloudup.com/cUZl8NfpqMC
If you’re seeing a different screen, please be sure to visit the signup link above before you start the signup process. Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)
Yes, I did, and yes, it looks like that.
And after I cleared the browser cache and cookies, as timethief suggested, and went back to sign up again, it said: “welcome back, contrast10”
I am in Hell.
My second account exists and it doesn’t exist. The password for it is correct and it is incorrect. My second username may possibly exist or be mine in some select WordPress universes. Maybe not.
One thing is certain and solid. I have spent a lot of time trying to do something that should have been extremely simple, and all I have to show for it is conversations with two very friendly happiness engineers.
I’m sorry for the frustration. If you let me know what username you’re trying to sign up for, I can double-check in our system to see if there’s already a WordPress.com account with that username.
As long as the username isn’t being used already, you’ll be able to sign up for a new account with it. It sounds like your browser is giving you fits (logging you back into your account when you want to be logged out). Here are a couple ways you could work around that:
1. You can use a different browser to sign up for your new account. You can download the latest versions of popular browsers here: http://browsehappy.com/
After you open the new browser, you can go here to sign up for the new account: https://signup.wordpress.com/signup/
2. You can use Safari’s private browsing mode (by going to Safari > Private Browsing in the Safari menu). That will make sure you’re not logged in to your contrast10 account while you try to sign up for your new account.
If you keep running into problems with this, can you please make a screenshot of what you see on the signup page and on the next page after you fill out the form there? You can upload screenshots to your Media Library under Media > Add New in your dashboard, or you can use an online service like Snaggy.
