Why does the kitchen sink disappear in distraction free mode?

The entire second row (kitchen sink) disappears when I go to the new fullscreen view. Assignment of colors, underline and paragraph styles are really important for me. Is there a command somewhere that I can use to bring these back to the fullscreen visual editor? If this was part of the latest upgrade, it is an improvement, it is a really bad decision.

The kitchen sink icons are not actually part of the “distraction free” fullscreen editor. The focus of the new fullscreen was to remove clutter, and this was unfortunately one of the “casualties.”

The kitchen sink icons never worked correctly in fullscreen mode and the engineers I had contacted had admitted that there were bugs being worked on. I see this new “distraction free” interface as an easy-way-out solution WordPress has come up with. Those features wouldn’t have been a distraction at all if they had worked right and they were, especially the underlining and coloring icons, were quite important. Now people who want to use them need to go to the tiny regular editing area and apply them there, which can be a real pain.

The move from “Full screen” to “Distraction free” was really made to provide a totally uncluttered environment for bloggers.

You can of course increase the editor text area size by dragging its lower right corner in the regular mode.
