Selecta broken on home server

  • I started a portfolio here using the Selecta theme and had it 90% to where I wanted it with the last tweaks probably requiring me to switching to self-hosting so I can mess in the CSS. However, when I have uploaded the theme to my server and then imported from my WP.com version, half the features of the theme are now broken.
    – Slider no longer contains images
    – Changing # blog posts appearing on page makes no changes
    – site name and tag line do not show up, “selecta” still shows on the header bar
    – no home page button on top nav
(trying to rebuild on secondary site here: http://kstanderson.com/)

I downloaded the theme zip file from OBox directly. I have the most recent version of WordPress installed. I’m puzzled. Did importing from WP.com cause the glitches?

  • The .com version has been built differently in order to be optimized for here WordPress.com and the theme works is totally different from the self-hosted version. So if you are using the self-hosted version now, I would suggest you to follow an instruction for the self-hosted version of the theme.

  • Oh, dang. Well, that explains it. Looks like I will have to find a new theme. The designer doesn’t provide any sort of support or good instructions for self-hosting, and the only reason I wanted to self-host was so I could edit some of the CSS which I understand we can’t do on WordPress.com.
