Serios Issues with Lack of Support at WordPress.com

  • I have had a plug-in for over two weeks that I believe would help me attract more viewers to my wordpress.com blog. I also bought another plug-in last night and neither of them function.

As I have spent almost ten years helping students learn computer and internet skills, have built my own computers for over ten years and have destroyed and re-installed every operating system since Windows 95 all together hundreds of times, I find it maddening that there has been no easy way to find information on how plug-ins are only for wordpress.org.

I just discovered today, in a desperate act to get one of these “famous” WordPress engineers, or anyone with a half a brain, to help me with my issues.

I have already bought two additional domains and have been unable to figure out how to configure them correctly. This obviously could be costing me money!

The idea that a company that has over $125.00 of mine and no easy to find help; except for pages and pages of poorly organized information, is just plain not acceptable.

Okay, well I’ll back track a little on that…

In 2015, it appears we live in a world where we are lucky that we can do business with someone who has a product or service we need. This is due to the fact that so few companies have a virtual monopoly on many of OUR most coveted products.

Of course, if in my attempt to fix my issues with the WordPress program (and there are several others as well) I had moved beyond the 5-hour limit I self-impose on myself for fooling with websites, I would have found what to do on my own.

I have spent approximately a thousand days of my life working on and building PCs and I am just too busy (and pissed-off) to throw away my time like this.

So, what’s it going to be WordPress, I either need some serious help, or I need to get my money back and call up Wix. I have discovered, that as they should, Wix has a support line to help individuals personally with their blog’s technical issues.

Because I am trying to get a very, very important blog off the ground, my incompetence in choosing a “big” company on the assumption that its people would know what they are doing, was a critical error on my part.

    I can only blame myself…

There is no such install plugins tab/button on any WordPress.COM hosted blogs now and there never has been one. There is no FTP access and no blogger installed plugin capability on any free hosted WordPress.COM blogs and there is no upgrade you can purchase here that changes that reality.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/ftp-access/
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/

If you want FTP access and to install plugins or third party themes into a site then you will have to hire a web host http://wordpress.org/hosting/ and set up your own WordPress.org install. WordPress.org offers free software that you can install on a web server. You can upload and install themes and plugins, run ads, conduct ecommerce and edit the database. If you would like to use your domain(s) you will first need to set up domain mapping.

You must be logged in as Admin http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#administrator under the exact same username account that registered the blog to access the blog’s dashboard and purchase upgrades at > Store > My Upgrades
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/my-upgrades/

Your billing history will be at Dashboard > Store > Billing History
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/billing-history/

Your options for payment are found here http://en.support.wordpress.com/payment/

All that changes when you are domain mapping is the URL and nothing else. The content stays exactly where it is. What domain mapping does its create a seamless transfer between the underlying .wordpress.com blog URLs to the domain URLs no matter where they are on the internet. Visitors who click the underlying .wordpress.com blog URLs will be seamlessly redirected to the exact same content under the domain URLs.

In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com subdomain blog to map from, and the domain name you desire must be available for purchase, or you must already own the domain URL.

Please read Domains: Important Notes Before Upgrading http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/

See here if you do not own a domain http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/

See here for mapping an existing domain that you already own http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

if you already have a website you don’t want to affect, and you want to add a blog to it under a subdomain (for example, blog.yourgroovydomain.com) see here http://support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-subdomain/

After you do the primary blog set up it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.
