Sexist ads – complaint from reader

    I’ve just had a complaint from one of my readers about the sexist and exploitative images (partially clothed women accompanying text which infers sex) used in some ads on my blog. I have a screen shot they have sent to me.

    Please remove these ads from my blog and stop them or similarly sensationalist or discriminatory images appearing again.

    To off-set the costs of providing free hosting to millions of bloggers, has been running advertising on our free hosted blogs since 2006. If the ads you see are found at the end of blog posts then provided you see this small About These Ads link what you are seeing is generated advertising.

    Any other ads appearing to you are not placed by If you see any other ads then you could have an issue on your browser or computer. Unfortunately they can be being placed there by software on your own computer or your visitors’. Such ads are sometimes caused by malware or a virus, but more often it is due to a browser extension or adware found in some games and shopping sites and toolbars that may have been installed in a browser. Staff aim to provide only family friendly ads. The definition of that will of course vary from place to place and country to country. Example: what religious schools in North America consider to be family friendly and what public schools consider to be family friendly vary from place to place and from continent and country to continent and country.

    Note that I’ve been here for over 8 years and the complaints I have seen were all created by malware, adware and viruses on the computers and browsers of those who complained and or on their visitors’ computers and browsers.
