Sharing buttons on front page
I can’t get the share buttons to show up on the front page of my blog. I’ve gone into Settings > Sharing, but it’s not giving me the “Posts and index pages” option under the “Show sharing buttons on” setting. Instead of the scrolling list I’m getting check boxes that give me the options “Front Page, Archive Pages, and Search Results”, “Post”, “Pages” and “Media”. Although I’ve checked these options to be on, I’m still not seeing the sharing buttons on my front page, just on the posts. Please help!! I’m using the Twenty-Eleven theme.
The blog I need help with is shutterjet.wordpress.com.
I see the same as you do; perhaps if you make another post it’ll force the changes? That’s all I can suggest at the moment.
Does this help you?
This is what I have on my Sharing page:
Button style – official buttons
Sharing label – share this
Open links in – new window
Show buttons on – Front Page, Archive Pages, and Search Results
That’s exactly what I have setup on my sharing page too. But for some reasons the buttons are just not appearing on the front page??
Your blog is displaying the same way mine is. When the titles of your posts are clicked the whole post displays on it’s own page and the sharing buttons are visible. That’s consistent with the expectation that people read our whole posts before sharing them. On the front page there are only excerpts ie. the beginnings of posts.
Yes, and I get that, but I’d also like the share buttons to appear on the front page for people who’d like to share my whole blog and not just individual posts. Do you know if there’s a way to do that? Thanks so much for your input!!
No I don’t think there’s a way to do that.
You have your one and only post set to use the Gallery Post Format, which uses an except style and won’t display the sharing buttons. Instead, edit it and switch that to the Standard Post Type.
Switching it to Standard Post does work, but that’s not how I want to display my posts on my front page. I want the posts to display as excerpts with a thumbnail and still have share buttons at the very bottom of the front page for people to share the website as well as individual posts. I really appreciate all your help and suggestions, but I think this might be a case of I can’t have my cake and eat it too!

You’re right. We have laid out what’s possible and what isn’t. Best wishes with your blog. :)
If you want to, you can keep the post as Standard and manually display the except by splitting it with a More tag: http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/
