Should I 'ping' my WordPress Blog?
I recently read on the internet, that its wise to ‘ping’ a blog of any sort!
Is this true when using a WordPress.com template, as I’m getting conflicting reports as whether or not WordPress does this automatically on our behalf.
If it is recommended, whats the best free ‘ping’ service to use?
Look forward to your reply, thanks!
The blog I need help with is simonmorris.me.
By “ping” if you mean does WordPress.COM and your blog call up the search engines and say “stop on by new content” – that is already being done for you – no need to reinvent the wheel.
Just keep on Posting
All WordPress blogs have ping-o-matic built in and immediately after you publish or delete a page or post, your WordPress.com blog sends a ping to Google, Bing, Yahoo! and Ask. WordPress sends sitemap update notifications to major search engines every time your site content changes. Each post edit or approved comment results in a new notification. This update frequency is the preferred behavior of search engines.
Have you verified your blog ownership with the major search engines? if not please see here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/webmaster-tools/ Note it can take 4 -6 weeks for your content to be indexed as yours is a new blog. This post contains 10 factors that may expedite the indexing process. http://www.onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2010/01/21/omg-i-cant-find-my-blog-on-google/

timethief – thats great, thanks! Just one question before I set to task – should I be submitting my original WordPress domain name of simonmorris71.wordpress.com or my paid upgrade of simonmorris.me ?
Submit the paid upgrade.
