I am having a little trouble with the blog page. I have reset the template under page attributes to one column, no sidebar. When I preview, that’s what there. However, as soon as blog posts are posted, the sidebar is back. Remove the posts and the sidebar goes away.
The no-sidebar template is an option for static pages. The main posts page is a dynamic page. When you set a static page as your posts page in Settings > Reading, you no longer see that static page: you just borrow its title, so to speak, to create the link to your posts page.
