Simply Getting Started

  1. When I used blogspot, even a computer-dud like me could immediately figure out how to do it. But here? I'm can't make heads or tails even how to post the first entry. WHERE is "everything"? At blogspot, there were all these handy tabs at the top of the page, as soon as you finished signing up. But here?

    Totally frustrated,

  2. Please link your username to your blog; it makes it much easier to help you. Do that on your Profile page.

There is a blue admin bar you'll see whenever you're signed in and on a blog or forum page. On it, you'll see the word Dashboard. That is your central point. Go there. You'll see where to write posts, check stats, pretty much ever function, and it has a link to this forum at the bottom of the Dashboard page, so you can come back and ask more specific questions.

You also want to make friends with the forum search box. Type in "Beginner resources" and you'll find a million threads with helpful tips. As a last resort, there's the FAQ:

  3. Um, er, yah, before I ever posted here, I went to the FAQ, and Lorelle's blog, and looked 3x in my dashboard area, and checked thru "resources," but to no avail. Thanx for your prompt reply; I will try to "link your username to your blog," whatever that means.

    Off to the profile page...

  4. OK, I have no idea how to "link my username to my blog." Went to the profile page and saw nothing for that there, sorry.

  5. Where it says "Primary Blog" put the URL of your blog. Then hit Update Changes.

Have you been to the Dashboard? Have you been to the Write page? Once you find the write page, you can just get started typing. When you hit Publish, the post shows up on your blog. Here's a guide to the icons in the Visual editor, so you'll be able to use the functionality there:

  6. Double-checking: you have read the thread here marked Read Me First, right?

Also, if you look at your blog and don't like the Hello World post, just click the link that says Edit and you can overwrite the whole post, title and all. Best not to delete it, though, unless you've already posted some other stuff. If you do that you get a big 404 when you go to the blog main page. Don't delete the placeholder post until you've got something else on the blog.

Also, check out this thread with lots of help for newbies:

    (2) Next click “edit this information”.

    (3) Complete the fields being sure that where it says website that you enter (no period at the end or the link won’t work)

    (4) Once you’re done click “Update Profile”. Voila! Now every time you sign into the forum we can click on your username and your blog will be linked to it.
