Site address & followers

  1. I want to change my site address but KEEP my do I make that happen?

The blog I need help with is

  2. Hey! You can change the domain name under My Site > Domains. Here are some more detailed step-by-step instructions on doing so!
Just keep in mind that this will make the original URL permanently unavailable moving forward, by yourself or anybody else. So if you think you may possibly decide to re-use the original URL, you may be better off creating a new blog with the new name. Does this help you out?

    Happy blogging!

  3. Thebud15....
I read this before I submitted my if I understand this correctly I can change my URL from myeatprayrvinglife.__________ to AND my current followers will still be able to follow OR do I need to do a 're-direct'?

    thank you...

  4. Yes, your current followers will transfer!

  5. One more question....does the domain HAVE to be the name of the blog? Or can I use anything?
Thank you so much! Your responses have been most helpful.

  6. The top level domain here is and all sites hosted here on on sub domains. The site title and the URL of the sub domain do not have to be the same.

    1. You can use the theme customizer to change a site title under site identity

    2. re: changing a site title
The Site title (blog name) and/or the optional Tagline can be changed on the top of this page at any time. >Dashbaord > Settings > General ... "save changes".
    * You will have to replace NAME_OF_BLOG withe the actual name of the blog in that URL.

That is exactly where search engine spiders look for the site title and removing it from there can cause issues with getting your content indexed. Note that the site title (blog name) and blog address URL do not have to be the same but it's better for SEO (search engine optimization) if they are the same.

  7. re: changing a address
We cannot edit any blog URLs. If you want to change the blog address ie. the URL starting with http:// then you must be logged in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the blog to do that and the URL you desire must be available. If so, then you can change the URL by using the guide Then all the content will be the same only the URLs will change and nothing else.

Be sure to locate the correct page

Changing a URL is meant to be a permanent and irreversible act. No changed or deleted blog URLs are recycled here, regardless of who registered and deleted them and the only exceptions are made are for URLs that were deleted 2 or more years ago

  8. timethief....
Thank you for the information and help. to be sure that I am understanding allow me to confirm as I see two slightly different responses.
(I have changed my blog name to "jelly donuts" (previously myeatprayrvinglife)....currently the site address is
I want to change it to - if it is available.
(My preference would be something NOT having the blog name in it so that should I desire to change the blog name I don't need to work with the URL sub-domain address). However, you then have this:

Then you have "* You will have to replace NAME_OF_BLOG withe the actual name of the blog in that URL."

    Hence my confusion.
My goal is to have a site-address that my followers can find BUT not necessarily having the blog name. Is this unrealistic?

    2) I am the administrator/owner of the blog.

    3) I am assuming so please confirm, that I can in FACT import my current blog into a new wordpress blog. (I am considering a theme purchase and a domain purchase).
Thank you in advance for your assistance.

  9. Hey @cmaydeal, you don't have to have the title of your blog match the name of the new URL, so you're on the right track!

  10. understanding was that IF I changed my site address, currently to something else, my followers would remain.
    However, I just saw this:
"After changing your blog address you can transfer traffic from the old address. You can do so by purchasing the Site Redirect upgrade."
Is transfer traffic different than people who chose to follow you?

  11. I think I found the answer re Site Redirect.
I am NOT moving away from WordPress so I do not believe it applies to me.
