Slow loading hosted site -

  1. We have experienced a significant degradation / slow down in our hosted site.

    The domain is
    The mapped subdomain is

The DNS is at 1and1 admin. There is a redirect to our LMS server (where our root product resides)

The blog I need help with is

  2. Part of your problem is you have what looks like over 300 Posts on the front page - that is a lot of database fetching and formatting - reduce the number of Posts to a smaller number should give you an immediate boost in speed - you have excerpts so try 25.

  3. Agreed. Normally one has less than 6 posts on the front page. See here please > Settings > reading and reduce the number of posts on your front page. Many of your posts also contain videos embeds that slow page loading time. Some people also choose to insert "the more tag" prior any embdes and display only excerpts on their front page

Page loading time is a page ranking factor so you will be interested in technicoques that reduce page loading time. Blogging: Strategies for reducing page loading time>

  4. Aux and Timethief - THANK YOU.

Will get cranking to reduce my front page bloat. All those holiday meals I guess!

  5. @dkohrell
    You're welcome. :)

    P.S. Just a suggestion > Dashboard > appearance > Extras
enable this __ Display a mobile theme when this blog is viewed with a mobile browser

  6. Time Thief - had the Mobile theme displayed already. That's one thing I got right

Now am adding this with some amount of humility, gratefulness for you two, self deprecating humor and flat out embarrassment...

DO NOT HAVE 361 of 368 Blog Posts labeled "sticky". Avoid sticky all together - it's a bad habit. And once you get in that habit and continually make all posts sticky, you've just jump back into web 1.0 of 1996 speed (on a 19.2 baud modem).

Am sharing this with hopes that the next time someone types - "slow site" this forum message will appear. After a couple hours of clean up, the loads in 3 seconds versus 34 seconds. I can even show 12 postings.

    THANK YOU Again!!!

  7. 361 sticky Posts - I was wondering why the number of Posts was so high - guess that would do it (I have never used more than two sticky Posts) -

Anyway - you be welcome - glad we could help

  8. WOW! 361 sticky posts! No wonder ... so glad you figured this out. Best wishes with the blog. :)

  9. Phew... ok Auxclass and Timethief let's just keep that on the quiet. I don't want to be kicked out of the Blog'O'World 2011 conference in Wahoo Nebraska. ;-)

Thanks again for your help - I really appreciate it!

  10. My lips are sealed. ;)
