How do I create a web post that includes a sample of code and keep the quotes from being converted to smartquotes so that someone can cut-and-paste the code?

Does encoding it to ascii work?
I find if I convert it to " it will get converted back to smartquotes if I try re-editing the document.
According to this thread, using the PRE tag might be enough:
I was trying to put the code example in a TEXTAREA instead of a PRE, so maybe this will fix it.
You could try re-editing after turning the RTE off?
It's a pain...
I actually copy and paste the content out of the produced HTML of the post and copy that back with the edited material in myself.
