Hello. Sorry if this is a repeat. I am trying to add the SOPA Strike Plugin to my blog, but I see no place to add Plugins to my blog. How do I do this ?

    Thanks !

The blog I need help with is lindorffellery.wordpress.com.

No Plug-ins here – please see this post about SOPA that was 3 Posts below your Post when I answered your question

again, I know I am repeating myself but sorry, here is just a stupid person concentrating more on writing than on being a part-time coder. is there really nothing that WordPress prepared for the people using WP? no normal button activating a blackout?

Yeah, I thought they could do that too. It was easier for my site http://noticerecordings.com Oh well. I tried to follow that forum, but there was no clear answer ! Seems like they could not agree on the best way to do it. I can’t follow that nonsense…

I searched and found these SOPA threads > https://en.forums.wordpress.com/tags/sopa
Particularly note what Staff (macmanx) stated in this thread in an earlier comment > https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/how-best-to-go-dark-for-sopa-protest?replies=77#post-792374

timethief: how does this answer my question for a simple button in the blog settings that would activate a blackout for the given blog? the post you linked is coding work, and as mention: since I anyway would be a very bad part-time coder, I know where to stop to read. I would read on if it would be about an own web page where one is forced to know about coding to get the stuff working. But here, on WP, I am talking about a blog page, so I have not even a chance to embed a code there.

I was expecting a simple solution, something the users could access in the settings/tools section. There was so much time to prepare for this…

    quoting mac anx

We don’t have anything specific planned for SOPA Day yet, but if we do something site-wide, it will be non-disruptive, or rather no more disruptive than the snow was. — https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/how-best-to-go-dark-for-sopa-protest?replies=77#post-792374

doing something site-wide would be doing something site-wide. I was talking about doing something that would give the users the possiblility to join the blackout themselves, i.e. to blackout their own page for a given period. and a blackout is something else than a ribbon…
besides, the quote is a bit more:

    ..”

    ah, c’mon

“If you want to do something yourself, you can add the following as an untitled Text widget:”

    as a what?

no idea what the guy is talking about. a simple SOPA blackout button in the settings/tools -> how on earth would that have been complicated (for WP coders)?

(and btw there is an “edit for typos” button needed in this forum. as a side note.)

(-c-o-r-r-e-c-t-e-d post version due to the missing edit button mentioned above)

Took me 5 minutes to add the “code” and button on my site – and that included the time to download and upload the banner and change the banner address for the image. And I type real slow.

auxclass: what do you have now, a ribbon?

I am talking about a blackout button.

We know what you want. We have said no, WP.com has not supplied that solution.

There are blackout ribbon solutions in that other thread, none of them one-click solutions. There are more solutions here: http://www.dailydot.com/politics/how-to-protest-sopa-/

no chance, no way. seems there are design themes that don’t allow “go to Appearance > Background”, that option is simply not there. I give it up. now there is a page somewhere online asking “why is this page still online” with a link directly to the WP forum.

it’s up to WP to explain why there was no simple solution for their users prepared. actually, these are the main users/target group of WP, real hardcore coders code on own pages, blogs are for people who are searching for solutions allowing them to concentrate on what they are doing. not every person on earth must be a nerd.

Nothing is preventing you from contacting Staff directly and sharing your feedback with them. Please proceed to do that now. And, as a I have provided the Staff contact link to you in both threads you posted into we Volunteers won’t be responding to you on this issue from here on.

no, I think it’s ok and it has taken time of all of us up to now, I think the solution mentioned above (simple question in big letters with a link to this forum) is ok for this day, I was not expecting a responding from volunteers and would never demand one.

Thanks for the option – the banner is nice sized and hard to miss. Adding it to my two main sites now.

Who says the WordPress.COM staff does not care?

Thanks for your help, WordPress.com staff. There are so many people who know nothig about coding, so it’s a big help. Word Press is a pretty amazing site, truly.

Anyway, I finally figured it out.

This is the code I am using in a Text Widget, and making my background black (#000)

    <div align=”center” style=”position:fixed;width:100%;height:100%;top:0;right:0;background-color:#000;text-align:center;font-size:200%;font-weight:bold;padding-top:300px;”>Stop SOPA (Strike Site)
    Stop SOPA (American Censorship Site)
