Spacing with Mac OSX
Has anyone noticed a problem with spacing in posts when using OSX? this is my new home computer, my work PC I have no problems.
When I write a new post at home, the spacing goes crazy – it appears in all sorts of ways that make no sense. Hitting shift while spacing does nothing. I have to hit return 3 times to sometimes get a double space. single spacing appears to be impossible, I have tried everything. Even when I paste from word, wordpress seems to just seems to make something up, and I am left with an interesting artwork of spacing, when all I had tried to post was a simple single spaced list.
Anyone else having this problem?
Are you using a Safari browser? http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/05/20/im-using-safari-and-i-have-problems/
Yessssss….that is totally the problem then. thanks!

FYI it’s microsoft that has embedded their own unqie formatting codes into the html and that’s what causes the problems. If you are copying and pasting from Word then please note icon 16F.
You’re welcome. :)
Hi, I’m having the same problem (i.e. no line breaks in published posts)
I’ve only just got an iMac and I don’t really want to be using different browsers all the time for different things.
Is there a way of using Safari and not having this problem? Or is Firefox better in general than Safari and worth using all the time?
The bottom line is: wordpress.com and firefox 18.104.22.168 and IE7 work very well together. Other browsers may be problematic. What staff recommend is written in this FAQs post http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/05/20/im-using-safari-and-i-have-problems/
This sis a forum thread that’s of interest as well https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=16218
There are even more references here https://en.forums.wordpress.com/search.php?q=safari
If it is Safari 3 then we await a fix from the people that code our editor.
Until then I’d recommend Firefox / Camino
You can use Safari by turning off the visual rich text editor, but that makes writing a little more difficult since you will see the html codes for all formatting you do (inserting links, italics, bold, etc.). This also means that some things you may want to do in a post, you will have to insert the html code by hand instead of just clicking a button. If you want to try this, go to users > my profile and uncheck “use visual rich text editor” and then click update profile.
There are some other issues with Safari that you may run into as well at some point, such as not being able to upload images since the upload button doesn’t appear in Safari.
You’re best bet though for a smooth blogging experience is to switch to either Firefox or Camino for working with wordpress. Perhaps somewhere in the future, TinyMCE and WordPress will more fully support Safari, but no one knows when that will be.
