In 2 days I have received over 100 calls and emails from shady web developers and I need this to stop. I did not select the private feature when registering the domain, but now that my info’s out there, will going private keep them from contacting me all the time? Thanks for your help.
The blog I need help with is briefwilderness.com.
Keegan here, WordPress.com community member, I would be happy to help.
Sorry you are having an issue with spam. Have you posted your email address on your website somewhere?
There are several ways your email address could be compromised, like using it to fill out any online forms.
Making your site hidden will make it unreachable on the internet for everyone besides you. To access this setting, go to My Site → Settings and look for Privacy. You can do this here – https://wordpress.com/settings/general

Please let me know if this answers your question, or if you need further assistance :)
Thanks Keegan, I did not put my email address anywhere, but I’m afraid that as soon as I registered my domain as not private my name, phone number and email was picked up by some database. They are all web developers and marketing people. I had to block a dozen phone numbers today! It’s my mobile phone and I use it for another business, so it’s annoying. I did spend the extra $8 tonight for privacy but like I said, I don’t know if it’s already too late or not.
I’d rather the site not be hidden so that friendly people can find it. I’m 100% sure it has to do with my new domain, as this was not happening until yesterday and I signed up Monday.
Anyway, thanks again.
