Spam Pingback Leads Nowhere…

I just received a spam pingback that has me a bit confused. Normally I would just trash it, but the quoted text in the pingback is my own text, so it looks as though my content has been stolen. But when I click on the link in the pingback, I get a “that server doesn’t exist” message.

I’m not sure if this is something I should be worrying about. Is there actually a site out there with my content, or is this just spammer slight-of-hand?

The blog I need help with is

Most likely it’s a spammer who has been booted off his own server.

    That would be poetic justice.

It happened to me when I linked one post to another in my own blog. I did trash them.

Self-pingbacks are not really spam though since you generated them by referencing one of your own posts in another post.

tellyworth and thesacredpath: yes, that would be excellent news! So I guess I’ll just quit worrying about it for now.

nandobase: I get those same self-pingbacks, too. Unfortunately this is most definitely spam, but cleverly made to APPEAR as a self-pingback because my own content is used. :(
