Squiggly circles in Matala

I changed the background of my Matala-blog, but I prefer to keep the nice squiggly circles in the menu. How do I do this? http://martijnschut.wordpress.com.

The blog I need help with is martijnschut.wordpress.com.

Apparently when you choose a custom background, it dumps the squiggly circle in the process as it is included in the stack of selectors for using a custom background.

Without the Custom Design Upgrade, there is no way to keep it I’m afraid. It requires tweaking the CSS.

Also to keep your torn chunk of paper behind the menu tabs irregardless of the browser window width, set it as “centered” instead of “left” at appearance > background.

I’ll consider taking the CDU. Thank you too for the unasked advise about centering my background. It indeed looks good now on other browsers too. Thank you.

Hi, I am having the same problem. I have a custom BG but when I put it in the theme I lose the torn edges – am I doing something wrong?

Matala is a difficult theme if you do not want to use it just as it is since all the various visual elements of the original design depend on each other.

It really isn’t a good theme to use if you want to “tweak” or use your own designs while keeping other parts of the original design. It quickly becomes as much a photoshop project as a CSS project.

Thanks for the reply. Is there a theme in which I could replace the header, background and change the menu items? I love the hand-drawn style of the menu rollovers and would love to replicate that – any suggestions aside from self-hosting?

Yes, there are many free themes at WordPress.com that have custom headers and custom backgrounds and custom menus.
