static.ak.fbcdn.net — blog slow to load
Is anyone else finding that the “static.ak.fbcdn.net” seems to take a long time to load? My blog wasn’t loading fully (though the entire page was there and appeared fully functional, the tab would always show the little loading icon and firefox’s new status thingy (that replaced the status bar) shows “static.ak.fbcdn.net” for a very long time.
I’d noticed that the google plus-one seemed to take a long time to load onto the page, so I removed that from the sharing options, but the “static.ak.fbcdn.net” is still holding up the page. I am aware that I’m on a somewhat slow wireless connection where I am at the moment, but other pages around the web load fine.
Is the “fb” indicative that it’s a facebook connection? And if it is, would removing the FB sharing button be enough, or is this associated with the new sign-in for comments, and so removing the FB option for sharing would be pointless?
The blog I need help with is mmadfan.wordpress.com.
Okey-dokey — solved my own problem. :)
I did a search for it on google & found that it’s a facebook loading page.
If you go here: http://vinodkotiya.blogspot.com/2010/02/solution-for-facebook-staticakfbcdnnet.html
you will find instructions that fix it. Yep, my page now loads promptly without sitting there with that facebook connection never connecting. It had been annoying me for days, and it took only a few minutes to solve — I guess I just had to get irritated enough to do something about it!
Anyone who does this — remember to reset the “hosts” file back to “read only” when you’re done!
Since that only seemed to work, but then the hang continued, I added static.ak.fbcdn.net to my Adblock filters. (If you actually are a Facebook user, you probably don’t want to do this, as it may affect your ability to get onto Facebook — I don’t know.)
