Sub Menus not working

I added a number of pages today (all photos – 1 gallery per page). I made a photo page that is now on the menu on all the main pages. The photo pages all gave me an option of placing them under a “parent page” which I did under the parent page of “photos.” No problem. The problem is that all these pages and menus are not showing up under that page. Why not/how do I fix it?

The blog I need help with is thusspokejon.wordpress.com.

Custom Menu Troubleshooting – My Pages aren’t appearing
They must be public pages – not private.
Public – The page will be visible to everyone.
Protected – The page is protected with a password you set. Only people who have the password can view a protected page.
Private – Pages are only visible to blog Editors and Administrators. Private pages are not visible in Reader, feeds, or in any search. A page can be private without being password protected.

There are two approaches you can use to establish Page and sub-page order. This first one is when you only have Pages.

    1. Page Order – Page attributes module order numerically rather than alphabetically.

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/page-attributes/

    2. This approach is for those who have created a custom menu and have added pages to that custom menu.
    create a custom menu http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/
add the pages and sub-pages http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#adding-pages
    order them http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#changing-the-order-of-menu-items-and-creating-sub-menus

Troubleshooting – My pages are in the wrong order
If you have a custom menu then you must establish consistency. Check the Pages sub-pages themselves to see if you have established a Parent page and child page “hierarchical structure” in the page attributes module. Remove if required.

Also remove any “order” numbers you have assigned that may conflict with the order you are creating by dropping and dragging. Or simply change them so they are the same order as you establish in the menu. Establish consistency – problem solved

Thanks but they are all public (I checked) and the main one called “Photos” is on the menu at top, which is perfect. Its just that the pages with all the photos arent showing up underneath. Check http://thusspokejon.wordpress.com/

Some themes automatically display dropdowns to child pages on the regular top menu and some don’t. Vigilance doesn’t. You need to replace its regular menu with a custom menu. See here:

Hey justpi, if I change themes, will this menu alteration migrate over the same way? Wondering in part because in my “space pics” page, the pics are attached to the “attachment page” and not the “media file”…which I dont even understand via wp’s description.

If you switch to a theme that automatically displays dropdowns, you won’t even need the custom menu. If you switch to a theme that doesn’t, you’ll go to Appearance > Menus and select the custom menu again from the Theme Locations pulldown.

This has nothing to with attachment pages and media files. What is it you don’t understand about them?

That kind of answered it. I am on a theme that has been made defunct and I dont want to migrate and find something went wrong and cant go back. Also, when it comes to a page I posted with pics, the options were to link them to the “attachment page” or the “media file” and those options arent explained well so I dont understand what they mean, so I dont want to find that these 300 pics disappear when I switch.

    a) The theme has become “retired”. This means it’s no longer available in the dashboards of newly created blogs, but it doesn’t cease to be available in older blogs. If you switch to a different theme, you can always switch back to Vigilance. And you don’t lose your content, no matter what you do with the themes: themes are “skins” – appearance only.
    b) See this post of mine:

thanks. So what do they mean about attaching pics to a media file vs an attachment page?

Interesting. I can write notes when the netting is Image and not attachment. So not sure what is going on there. Thanks though.

    You’re welcome.
You can write notes, but if you make an inserted image link to the media file, the notes won’t show up anywhere.
