On my WordPress.com blog site I was trying to add a slideshow of our sponsors to the sidebar.
View site here: http;//arcornbreadfestival.com
I searched the web and found this: http://en.support.wordpress.com/slideshows/
None of the supported slideshow affiliates work, eg: Slide, RockYou, and Slide Share.
What has changed? Can I do have a slideshow in the sidebar? Could you please update the information on the support page.
I plan to transfer over to a wordpress.org site within the next year. Just would like to know what I can/can not do with the wordpress.com website in regards to this issue.
The blog I need help with is arcornbreadfestival.com.
Let’s start by what you mean by “sponsors”. No blogger initiated advertising, affiliate links, retailing or reselling the work created or services provided by anyone other than yourself is allowed on free hosted wordpress.COM blogs. The exceptions noted in support documentation with regard to affiliate links are found here: To be clear, people writing their own original book, movie or game reviews and linking them to Amazon, or people linking to their own products on Etsy do NOT fall into this category. http://en.wordpress.com/types-of-blogs/
The slideshow shortcode can only be used in a post or a page. It creates a slideshow based on images attached to that post or page. For the sidebar, you can use Flickr – see here: http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2010/07/17/gigya-2-flickr-slideshows/
Thanks for the input @timethief and for your previous assistance!
“Our sponsors” is in regards to those businesses and non-profits in the community supporting our event. We integrated the images into our flickr account and added the shortcode onto the respective pages. We are not concerned with driving sales to the “sponsors.” Just giving them credit for their support for our community ran event.
The short code is working for the pages and posts. I haven’t had a chance to try out the gigya-2-flickr option for the sidebar. I’ll give it a shot.
Do you know of a way to suggest that this page: http://en.support.wordpress.com/slideshows/ be brought to attention to WordPress.com besides on the forum?
It still seems that this page needs to be updated or amended.
Slideshare certainly works. I used it here:
The exact instructions on the Support docs are no longer accurate, however. You need to click Embed, then Customize and copy the WordPress.com code.
I just want a slideshow option that allows for enlarging the individual pics when clicked on. Slideshare seems to be more for powerpoint etc presentations. Slide.com doesn’t do slideshows anymore, and RockYou looks like something for kids.
