Tag Cloud View

  1. I am starting to build out my page and want to use the Tag Cloud however in my reading it seems to follow the post and not a specific page. I was thinking of having a page for each subject like:
    Cooking techniques
    Tips & Tricks.

on these pages the blog posts will live. is there a way to have Tag Cloud see the page and not the post? or do I need to create the page and then put a quick post in there to activate the tags?

The blog I need help with is

  2. Hi there,

What actually happens with the tag cloud, is when a reader clicks a tag, it automatically takes them to a dynamic page where all the posts from your site with that tag show up. It's not actually a separate page at all, although it will look like a stand alone page to your visitors.

To create "pages" in your menu that focus on individual subjects, you should follow the same process using categories. Here's how that works:

Does that help? Category and tag "pages" are one of those areas of WordPress where the resulting page is not super intuitive, so if you have more questions about how to make your site look the way you want it to, please don't hesitate to ask.

  3. Thanks this is what i am trying to achieve. I was working with using different Category widgets but it seemed that everything was showing up in every one when i posted something

  4. It looks like you've worked this out--at least, the dining style page seems to be working. Let me know if you are having any more problems.

  5. yes to an extent however ultimate goal is to have the dining style as a drop down and you then select from dining style
Dining Style> then in the drop down you have Categories below that. I use the parent child relationship but cannot get it to work the way i want it to yet.

Dining Style (drop down will have the below to choose from)
America (when clicked this would take you to American page of blog)

maybe i am thinking beyond the free .com version of wordpress as i have not been able to do this. or get the dropdown to work as I think.

  6. I understand what you are looking for now, and it's absolutely possible--You just need a custom menu:

You've probably already created one to get the categories to show up at all, but once you have the major categories, plus the child categories added to the menu, make sure the children are all listed under their parents and then pull each child menu block a little to the right. It should "stick" there. Then, after you hit save and go back to your menu it will display the way you are hoping for.

  7. Exactly what my little mind wanted. Dancing happy dance right now.

  8. Yay!!! So glad I could help.
