Taking over a used but deleted blog address
The blog address myhumblepie.wordpress.com is taken, but the site has been taken down by the user. I wish to use this blog address for a new blog I’m starting. Who can I contact about obtaining this domain name?
The blog I need help with is emmamaguire.wordpress.com.
WordPress.com does not recycle blog names but you are welcome to use an alternate name for your site.
A WordPress.com blog owner can choose, at any time, to permanently delete his/her blog. There are any number of reasons someone may want to do this, and we certainly respect their wishes and decisions.
Addresses (URLs) for blogs that have been deleted by the owner will remain deleted. We cannot, under any circumstances, allow someone to take over the address of a blog that was previously owned and deleted by its original/previous owner. Please do not submit support requests asking us to do this.
Imagine you have a blog for a while but then decide to delete it for personal reasons. We then let someone else take over the name. A year later you get an angry phone call from a friend or relative who has clicked on an old bookmark, reads something offensive, and thinks that it was published by you. This is precisely why our policy is, and will remain, in place.
Or you could look into domain mapping, a paid upgrade, to see if that name is available.
Wow, I had no idea! Thanks for clearing this up.
You are welcome!
It makes sense: I’d feel bad if I deleted my blog then later found out someone had taken the name to publish pictures of beautiful skinny women with great hair, wonderful clothes, jewelry and shoes, and were 30 years younger than I am. Gosh but my friends would be surprised…
