Technical Difficulties with Site Display and Comments For Readers
I have been having some technical issues with my blog: http://quantinvesting.wordpress.com . While I have not experienced any issues, several readers have. Here are some of their comments. I hope it will help you get an understanding of the situation:
“hello there and thank you for your info – I have definitely picked up something new from right here. I did however expertise a few technical issues using this website, since I experienced to reload the site lots
of times previous to I could get it to load correctly. I had been wondering if your web host is OK? Not that I am complaining, but sluggish loading instances times will sometimes affect your placement in google…”
“This web site won’t display properly on my iphone 3gs – you might want to try and fix that”
Additionally, my site marks every comment, regardless of content, as spam. Then when I go in and allow the comments they don’t show up on the blogs! I don’t know what is going on but I am pretty sure that it isn’t an issue on my side.
Thank you for looking into this.
The blog I need help with is quantinvesting.wordpress.com.
hmmm well I guess you can’t exactly get in contact with the lousy programmers so sorry for phrasing things as if I was writing to them. Hopefully you can see a solution that a free member such as myself has overlooked.
You’re not having any technical issues: both of these comments are typical spam – bullshit comments designed to seem reasonable no matter where they’ve been posted. I or any other experienced user can show you hundreds of identical or similar comments, always posted under different bogus names.
Solution: trust Akismet – it’s right 99% of the time.
justpi – thanks for the reply, but I would tend to disagree. At least for the first comment. The author of it wrote some stuff pertinent to my blog as well. Also why would they bother spamming me like that? They don’t get anything out of it…
And I have gotten a bunch of comments which Askimet blocks which are short but pertinent and when I unblock the comments they don’t show up!
You disagree because you’re inexperienced. Here’s just three examples out of thousands where the same bullshit shows up:
Paste that comment or part of it inside quotation marks in the google searchbo and see how many results it will return.
justpi is correct. That’s spam and I could post a string of links to prove it just as he did.
Anyone can subscribe to the RSS feed on any public blog. Be aware that there are human beings who get paid to post spam as well as robotic programs that post spam. There’s nothing unusual about what you are getting. We all get it.
The vast and overwhelming majority of all so-called information on the internet is spam. Over 80% of all so-called comments submitted to .wordpress.com blogs every day are spam.
The worst of all spam containing malware and viruses is not sent to us. It’s removed as it could bring down many blogs if opened.
On the spam that Akismet catches it takes only seconds to click “empty spam” and you don’t even have to click “empty spam” if you don’t want to. Akismet will maintain comments it has caught for 15 days from the time they were received, and then it will delete the comment automatically.
If you get spam that slips by Akismet then mark it as spam (do not delete it) and over time Akismet will learn it’s spam.
There is no such thing as eliminating all spam but Akismet works very well. For more information please take the time to read “5 things every blogger should know about spam” on this page Akismet: How it works http://akismet.com/how/
Ok. my apologies. Thanks for the heads up
Also be on the watch for spam which contains a copy and paste from your own posts or your own comments on your own blog.
