temporarily setting to private
I’m thinking of setting my blog to private while I fool with a massive overhaul. If I do that, will the current search engine connections start up again when I go public again, or will I be starting from scratch? I know they’ll change on pages I drop or add, but some will remain, and the site title and domain will remain.
The blog I need help with is littlepuppetstudio.com.
I would not worry about that at all as the site will regain anything it loses.
To change blog visibility to Private go to > Settings > Reading scroll to Blog Visibility and choose option 3. See the guide here http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings
Note that switching themes https://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/#switch-themes can be easily done, provided you are logged in as Admin under the same username account that registered the site.
Themes are just “skins” on WordPress.COM hosted blogs. You can quickly and easily change themes on any WordPress.COM hosted blog to another one found here http://wordpress.com/themes/ and no data will be lost or negatively affected by the change. The only time you may have to do a lot of work is if you are changing to a dramatically different theme with different features and/or if you have done any CSS editing.
Provided you are logged in as Admin under the same username account that registered the blog go to Dashboard > Appearance > Themes, Browse themes until you find one you like and click the “activate” or the “preview” link, or type in the name of the theme you want to use when it appears.
The theme customizer https://en.support.wordpress.com/customizer/ provides a preview function for exactly that purpose ie. so you can view what a theme will appear like prior to changing one.
Thank you so much! I like my theme a lot, and have used CSS, but the set-up I did years ago within my current theme wasn’t really mobile friendly even though the theme itself is. I need to reorganize the way I’d input photos (started on front page), and have rethought the hierarchy of pages to allow for less clicking and reloading time for viewers. Also may make it single page, no sidebar. And need to add pages/remove pages, the work has changed through the years. Now the blog’s becoming a half-and-half mess of information, and I want to hide it till it’s together again :)
