Text background color change

I have my main page extended the width of the screen. Now that I did that, My text box and widget are spread too far apart. I would like to have these centered a little more so the space is more on the sides of the page. I would also like to know if you can change the color of the text background. The background of the page itself is white and the color of the text background is a light grey color. I would like to change that to match the color of the page background (white). I know I’m probably not using the right terms here so just to be clear, when I say “page background” I am referring to the color surrounding the text and sidebars. Not the actually website background which can obviously be changed very easily.

The blog I need help with is qualitylandscapeinc.wordpress.com.

I am running on the Motif theme.

Just following up to note that the answer to the question about changing the color of the text background was posted at https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/main-page-color-change?replies=4#post-1858875

And answers to the question about adjusting the widths of the content and sidebar areas in the Motif theme was address at https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/questions-on-css?replies=4#post-1870925

    Cheers :)
