    I want to add a poll to my sidebar and I know that this must be done through the sidebar through a text widget.

    The problem is – How do I add a text widget? I can’t find the option anywhere! (im looking under appearance>widgets) Im using the Black-letterhead theme if this matters.

    thanks

    The blog I need help with is yfonline.wordpress.com.

    Please paste the exact URL of your blog when asking questions here – or link your nickname to your blog as explained in the Sticky 8 Things to Know. We usually need that to give a relevant answer.

    Yes it’s under Appearance>Widgets.

    In Appearance > Widgets you’ll find the Text widget among the other widgets, just click “Add”, then click on “Edit” and add the html code for the poll or just some general text, then save the page.

    Good luck.

    Not the html code, the shortcode.

    I wanted to use the text widget to list several dates and events occurring on those dates. However, it doesn’t seem like the carriage return functions inside this widget it is simply made to a a blog paragraph. Either there’s another widget I should use or I’m not using this one properly.

    Instead of:

    Feb 25 Lily Allen
    Feb 26 Andrew Bird

    It displays:

    Feb 25 Lily Allen Feb 26 Andrew Bird

    You can use html codes in the text widget to fix the formatting…

    <‘p align=”left”><‘span style=”font-family:arial;color:#000000;font-size:small;”>Take out the ‘ marks and add your text here<‘/span><‘/p>

    You don’t need the whole thing, just add <‘br> at the end of the line and you should be fine.

    I was trying to add a TEXT WIDGET with the counter (Histas) & I have the following code:

    <!– Histats.com START –>
    <script type=”text/javascript” language=”javascript”>
    var s_sid = 617566;var st_dominio = 4;
    var cimg = 400;var cwi =120;var che =90;
    </script>

    <script type=”text/javascript” language=”javascript” src=”http://s10.histats.com/js9.js”></script>
    <noscript>
    <img src=”http://s4.histats.com/stats/0.gif?617566&1″ alt=”web hit counter” border=”0″>

    </noscript>
    <!– Histats.com END –>

    But it displays this code only in my blog https://valibarsangam.wordpress.com

    I am non-coder..Please let me know what should be done to display the counter in my blog?

    You can’t add that code to a WP.com blog because it contains javascript. It will automatically be stripped out, sorry.
