Putting a Like box in the sidebar is kind of silly, as it only enables people to Like your blog once. Putting it in the post using the Sharing options is smarter, as it enables people to Like each of your posts.

Yes. I just read all the comments above and I am having the same problem. I don’t want to add an FB badge, I don’t want strangers adding me on facebook and I definitely don’t want to be putting it at the end of each sentence. Is there any way to add it? I even tried the FB image and linked the fanpage to and and the image isn’t showing up. help please/

If by it what you mean a Facebook like button iframe box, then the answer is “no”. It’s an iframe and the software will strip the code out to preserve security on this multi-user blogging platform. http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/

I understand the concerns around iframe and security (oops sorry thesacredpath, I used them in the same sentence); however, what about the other method – XFBML? Is there reason why this method is not allowed? Security again?

I know, I know: THIRD BASE!

    #520756

    Yup, security again. Sorry.

I saw a girl’s post that had the like-button between the headline and the actual post in every single post! How is that possible? Can you tell me how to do that?

Not without the URL of that blog, starting with http.

Yeah, I agree, a like box is needed for WordPress.com. Disappointed it is not available here.

More Facebook Integration is necessary please. Am contacting the staff as you suggest. Thanks.

By the way, no a like box is not “silly,” it is a subscription to a facebook page, which is valuable to a businessperson, not just a “vote” for their post. Thanks.

There are a lot of bloggers who feel this way. Time will say if it’s really hot or not. While we wait for the great internet historian’s verdict, we might still like to use it to get connected…

I have figured out a way to add a Facebook Likebox in a wordpress.com blog.

How to add a Facebook Likebox in a wordpress.com blog – part 2

Please note that the Facebook Likebox is visible only when the reader clicks a text link, but it DOES then open right in your wordpress.com blog.

And you can put it almost anywhere you want – post/page/side bar/footer/header-widget.

I wish that WordPress would have made the fact that the “Facebook Like” button wasn’t available before I had signed up and paid. It’s a huge issue. The like button is very important to getting readers. I probably wouldn’t have signed up for WordPress and paid all that money had I known. It’s something word press seriously needs to consider.

If you are looking for a solution then please look one comment above your last comment. If you wish to share your unhappiness with the Staff (Happiness Engineers) then here’s the link > http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

@alex, @sanjidas has given you a solution, and the sharing feature here allows you to put a like button on each and every post and page.

The code used for the facebook like box is a security risk so it cannot be used here. Perhaps at some point staff will incorporate it in the backend so that they can have complete control over the code so it cannot be modified or used to introduce security issues, but until they decide to do that, we have the workarounds that @sanjidas has provided, and we do have the “like” buttons via the sharing feature.

seems like i just wasted a hour trying to figure out how to add a like button to my blog’s posts and site. at least i have a answer now and can give up. it does seem pretty stupid that wordpress would’nt encorporate the features of the world’s most popular social networking site into their site. and the solution provided by sanjidas is lame, why would i want a tiny little box open in a a new window? that seems like a ass-backward way to do it when it wouuld be 10x simpily and cleaner looking on the blog to have a simple “like” button. oh well i have’nt paid for anything to create my blog so i guess i can’t complain to much.

It is VERY important to be able to add a “Like Box” to our blogs. I use my blog for my business, and I really need this function. I am very disappointed (after hours of searching how to do this) that WordPress doesn’t allow this function. They need to make it happen.

If you are solution orientated there appears to be a solution posted at the top of this page. Have you tried it?

    #520769

I guess it’s time to upgrade or move platforms. WordPress.com – secure? Yes. Blogger friendly – apparently not.
