give us our lovely tooltip titles back!!!!!!

    #1083037

Could someone please tell me WHY WP will not give an option to accept their blanket changes?

OR… at least give a trial period to see if their changes would be helpful to your site?

Making me waste hours to find items is costing me and WP money!

I sympathize with you. What comes with the territory of being a WordPress.com blogger is the fact this platform is on continuous rollout and code changes are made every day. Another thing that comes with the territory is prior to the WordPress upgrades being made available to WordPress.org bloggers we are the guinea pig platform. Asking to be consulted prior to any changes here is akin to whistling into the wind.

Losing part of the content we’ve created in our blogs shouldn’t be considered an improvement. I mean: What if some day WP decides that text in our posts shouldn´t be longer than 250 words?
Improve the plattform, but PLEASE don´t change the content of our posts.

Time: Was about to jump ship when they threw the “infinite scroll” down our throats. I’ve about had it!

WP is making some good money from my site… I can take my site and my money elsewhere!

    #1083041

sr: Are you serious?? WP is going to change the CONTENT of posts??? OH, if that’s the case, I’m outta here!

well. I consider that titles that i wrote for pics in my posts are PART of the content, and it seems someone at WP considers they don´t need to be shown.

I agree that any loss of blogger created content is unacceptable.

    @stoopidhousewives
I’ve been on this rollercoaster ride for over 6 years. I moved my personal blog to self-hosting for a couple of years and brought it back. Do understand that the changes to the images here are a preview of what will be the same on WordPress.org installs in the next upgrade.

We’re still working on about a dozen remaining issues, but we hope to deliver WordPress 3.5 to your hands as early as next week. http://wordpress.org/news/2012/11/wordpress-3-5-release-candidate-2/

sr: I know!! Most of the titles for my videos have disappeared! “Happiness engineer” James told me yesterday to search for them by date… by looking through ALL my posts! Can not believe this crap.

I’m so sorry because I do know exactly how you feel as I have stood at that same crossroads many times. Support Staff members have already been running whatever we experience for a couple of weeks before we are made to jump through these rings of fire. This many sound extreme but I suggest you put your health and sanity first and walk away from your blog just for today.

“I agree that any loss of blogger created content is unacceptable.”

Does is it mean WordPress 3.5 will fix this problem with tooltip titles, and we will be able to see this content of our blogs again, or am i being too optimistic?

    #1083048

@time: Just found this forum… it’s good to know others have experienced and/or felt the same! It’s good to vent! Your insight is very much appreciated!

Does is it mean WordPress 3.5 will fix this problem with tooltip titles ..

No it’s means that 3.5 is already running here on this platform. Note that I’m not a Staff member. I’m just Volunteer and my opinions don’t count for any more than yours or any other member’s does. No matter how many of us WordPress.com blogger post to the forum ask for this to be returned, Staff can still take the stand that there are millions of other bloggers who have not posted to the support forums. The pattern I have observed is pointing out that it’s only a minority who post to the support forums providing negative feedback in response to any changes.

thebusyteapot – could you please start a new thread for your issue so we can better help you? https://en.forums.wordpress.com/?new=1

    #1083052

@time: Not surprising… none of the questions posed here are answered!

Can see right through all the BS answers given! Again, appreciate your insight!

However, there was an uproar re “infinite scroll” and that was changed back or WP gave the option to opt out. Therefore, WP CAN give options.

Just to clarify a few things here since I’m being misquoted (I’m James).

After communicating with “happiness engineer” James all day yesterday, was told that my spending time in finding the items which were easily found before this change would not affect the traffic to my site!

I think you’re blowing that out of proportion, it’s more effective to focus on specific problems than speculation. Overall, a change to how you insert media when writing a post has no effect on whether or not visitors will visit and read your blog.

If I’m spending hours trying to find what I need, that means that I will post less. which means that traffic to my site will definitely be affected!

If you’re spending hours finding a single media file, something is either terribly broken beyond what we’re seeing ourselves, or you’re not effectively searching for it. If you uploaded the image before, just search for its title via either the Add Media window or the Media section of your blog’s Dashboard.

“Happiness engineer” James told me yesterday to search for them by date… by looking through ALL my posts! Can not believe this crap.

I never said that you have to search by date, nor did I say that you have to look through every single one of your posts. If you open the Add Media window or go to the Media section of your blog’s Dashboard (either one), there is a search box near the top-right which you can use to search all of your media by title.

So, if you want to insert an image or video that you have previously uploaded, click Add Media, search for it by title via the search box, and insert it.

Losing part of the content [tooltips] we’ve created in our blogs shouldn’t be considered an improvement.

Regarding that, please see the explanation give in the thread your were involved in earlier: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/new-media-upgrade-has-major-flaws-wordpress-support-please?replies=32#post-1081764

What if some day WP decides that text in our posts shouldn´t be longer than 250 words?

I can assure you, that will never happen. There will never be any content limitations at WordPress.com.

Does is it mean WordPress 3.5 will fix this problem with tooltip titles, and we will be able to see this content of our blogs again, or am i being too optimistic?

As mentioned above, this new Add Media system is straight out of the upcoming WordPress 3.5 release. It’s not something that we made necessarily. I suppose it is possible that the tooltips may be coming back, but so far they are standing by their reasoning, which in the long run makes sense to me, but I understand that there can certainly be differences in opinion.

However, there was an uproar re “infinite scroll” and that was changed back or WP gave the option to opt out. Therefore, WP CAN give options.

Infinite Scroll was a WordPress.com-only feature, so we do have full control over it and can offer options like that.

The new Add Media system is from the upcoming core WordPress 3.5 software release, which we have much less control over, making an option to switch back highly unlikely as the old Add Media system probably can’t even function with the new 3.5 software.

I appreciate your time as volunteer trying to help people like me, and i understand what you mean about staff,s capacity to to what they consider best for the plattform. Anyway, i think there’s a red line that shouldn´t be crossed: blog’s content. Upgrading shoudn´t even think about changes that modify, mutilate or hide the content of our posts.

About those millions of bloggers who seem to be happy with the new upgrade…well, I’m glad fot them , but PLEASE don´t try to convince me that they’re enchanted with the idea of seeing the titles they wrote have dissapeared.

    #1083056

Just to clarify… Yes, there is obviously something wrong!

When you have THOUSANDS of photos and videos to search through… which now are untitled… it takes up valuable time! For me to sift through them all, as you instructed, takes up time.

It is only logical that the less time spent posting because one has to FIND the correct photo/video means less posts, that means less traffic… and that means less revenue for WP!
