Hello! I bought a theme from theme forest and a domain from GoDaddy but I am confused about how I can develop a functional website since I am totally tech newbie. The documentation are still confusing me. Can someone simplify the process for me? Thank you
The confusion is perhaps you are looking at the documentation applicable to sites here on WordPress.com.
WordPress comes in two flavours: WordPress.com and WordPress.org (the open source software). You can read more about the difference between the two here.
WordPress.com (where you are now) is a fully managed hosting. WordPress.com is different. Here at WordPress.com, you don’t have to download software, pay for hosting, or manage a web server (In simple words, you do not have to be tech/code savvy at all). You can instead focus on creating wonderful content, and let WordPress.com handle the rest!
I understand that you have already purchased a domain with GoDaddy and a theme from Themeforest; so in this case if you wish to create your site here on WordPress.com, you require a business plan upgrade to upload a third-party theme. And to use a domain you already own through GoDaddy you can choose between mapping the domain or transferring it.
Once you read through the difference between the two types of WordPress carefully, you will be able to decide which WordPress is best for your site’s needs.
If you decide to use the open source WordPress software, getting to https://wordpress.org/support will help you find both the support and documentation for the version of WordPress you are likely to use. Alternatively, you can take this question directly over to the WordPress.org support forums:
If you decide to come on board with WordPress.com, please feel free to write to us here on the forum and one of us will be more than happy to help you around.
All the best with any choice you make.
