I am willing to upgrade to a premium theme for our online weekly paper but am not sure what theme would work the best. We need to be able to layout the next weeks edition and then be able to hit publish on Friday. We need the theme to have a feed for multiple authors. Is there a theme that would work for us?

The blog I need help with is theriverpaper.wordpress.com.

This is a link to the Themes Showcase. There are over 120 free themes and a search box with filters for features. I suggest you look at magazine style themes there. It’s a live demo site. http://theme.wordpress.com/

    Evbery wordpress blog has two RSS feeds built in;
Your RSS Feed URL for posts (entries) is http://riversruminations.wordpress.com/feed/
Your RSS Feed URL for comments is
    http://riversruminations.wordpress.com/comments/feed

If your create a Category for each author’s name and they assign it to each of their posts then there will be a category feed for each authors posts that can be subscribed to by readers.. This is the format it will take:
    http://NAME_OF_BLOG.wordpress.com/category/categoryname/feed/

If you go here: http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/ and type “magazine” into the search box, 9 themes appear. A few (such as Inuit Types, which is nice, or Depo Masthead) are free, but several are premium. I think you might find one that meets all or most of your needs among them.

For all wordpress.com themes, a post can be prepared in advance and saved in draft form, and in all of them, you can also schedule a post in advance — to post a midnight local time, for example, or to schedule posts while away on vacation or something.

I’m not sure what you mean by a “feed” for multiple authors, but if you set each author as a category, then you can create an RSS feed for each individual author that way.

    Hope this is helpful.

Theses are helpful for the feed. Is there anyway to have our whole paper on draft and scheduled? We do individual pieces already.

I know how to schedule posts…I want to know if any of the themes can help me get my paper ready for publishing on Friday. Will any of the themes let me set up the papers edition while the older edition is still out? The whole page as it is when I publish. Thank you

I want to know if any of the themes can help me get my paper ready for publishing on Friday.

This is not theme dependent. How quickly you get up and running is up to you.

Will any of the themes let me set up the papers edition while the older edition is still out? The whole page as it is when I publish.

This is not theme dependent. You may create and publish as many posts as you wish every day if you wish on any them you use here.

It sounds to me like you will benefit from using the tutorial Staff have created for new members. The Learn WordPress.com tutorial is divided into progressive levels and presented as a series: http://learn.wordpress.com/

It also sounds to me like your “newspaper” aim may be better achieved by checking out the free newspaper publishing sites rather than using a blog. see here > http://paper.li/

You could set up a secondary blog/site and do all your set up there for the next edition, but if you go with a premium theme, you would have to buy two of them (one for the main and one for the secondary) since you cannot use a single instance of a premium theme on two sites.

The above of course is not the best solution though since you cannot easily transfer posts from one theme to another. You would have to copy and paste and that introduces much more work.
