There is no more option to make a slideshow in a post
another frustrated slideshow user..hope it can be fixed soon?……
I thought i had lost my mind! It was there yesterday and now it is gone. I have tried everything and have spent hours trying to change the order of images, guess I should’ve checked here earlier. Just adding my name to the list, thanks for your help.
And now the Support doc has been updated to note that you will have to (hopefully only for a little while) add the slideshow shortcode manually after uploading your images.
So there’s still no way to reorder your slideshow photos? Is this something that’s being fixed or is this the new normal? Thanks so much.
Today is November 30 and I was releaved to read all the above posts!
We hadn’t updated our website since May, so when I came in to rearrange our photos in the slideshow, I was freaked to see everything different—no control.
Scary, I thought I was loosing my mind; and I don’t have time for that. whew.
OK. Sounds like this is an IN HOUSE problem and will be addressed soon. Great, because our wordpress site represents our business and we count on the efficiency of WordPresses staff.
Let’s rally around this one!!
mbstonemason – you can still use the slideshow until Staff fix this. You just have to type the code manually in your post
[slideshow]after you upload your images to the same post where you want the slideshow to appear. See the Support doc I pointed to above.
We do intend to bring back the “Insert slideshow” option and its associated features. While I don’t have an ETA, I’ll keep everyone posted here as I know more. Sorry for the inconvenience in the meantime.
We’ve updated the instructions for adding a slideshow to reflect the new process.
So there’s still no way to reorder your slideshow photos?
While there isn’t a way to reorder existing slideshows, there are two ways to set the order on a new slideshow:
- Add slideshow images to the Media Library
- Attach each image one by one to the post
- Add your slideshow shortcode to the post
- The images will display in the same order you attached them to the post
- Add images one at a time to a post using the Add Media button
- Wait until one image is done uploading before uploading the next one
- Add your slideshow shortcode to the post.
- The images will display in the same order you uploaded them to the post
hahaha thank you!
However; why did WordPress fix something that wasn’t broken?
I’m sure you know how long this is going to take me, since I had about 100 pix uploaded showcasing my projects. I’m a stonemason, not a computer whiz.
does it typing manually would work? I have never try it before. thank you for the suggestion, I do copying from my old post.
This slideshow issue completely defeats the purpose of using WordPress to host my website… Looking in to other options now.
There is no issue for me. Please clarify what the issue is for you. Surely typing [slideshow] is not an onerous task so there must be something beyond that you are having trouble with.
jchproductions – as I mentioned earlier, we do intend to bring back the “Insert slideshow” button and its associated features in a future release.
There are some complex technical reasons behind this and unfortunately it’s just not currently possible to bring the button or ordering feature back immediately. I realize the change is an inconvenience for some, and we sincerely apologize.
If you require finer control over the slideshow order beyond what’s currently possible using one of the techniques I described here, you might want to look at using a gallery as an alternative in the meantime.
I have no issue typing [slideshow] or [gallery] or [anything] really. It’s hardly difficult.
What is difficult, is not being able to sort the order of photos, ie change them around because you post a lot and want some to be in a slideshow and others not, NOT being able to edit once up, ie crop, rotate, and obviously adding the featured photo. What on earth is with this latest debacle? It really is a total disaster.
I have no interest in the slideshow or gallery button. If people can’t work out how to add that via [ ] then I’m not sure they should be blogging. But the other functions are useful. And they are gone.
not being able to sort the order of photos

NOT being able to edit once up, ie crop, rotate, and obviously adding the featured photo
The image editing tools still work http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/image-editing/
I have never used those. I pre-size images offline before uploading them. That means I don’t experience an image quality loss, don’t waste my upload space and don’t have to do any troubleshooting.
obviously adding the featured photo
We can still set a featured image via the old method for setting featured images. http://en.support.wordpress.com/featured-images/#setting-a-featured-image
Note: If you don’t see the Featured Image module on your Add New or Edit Post page, please make sure you’ve selected Featured Image in your Screen Options.
What is difficult, is not being able to sort the order of photos, ie change them around because you post a lot and want some to be in a slideshow and others not,
You can still sort the order of photos in a gallery, just not those in a slideshow, as I mentioned above. The ability to sort images in a slideshow will be restored in a future update.
NOT being able to edit once up, ie crop, rotate,
You can edit an image after uploading it through the Media Library.
and obviously adding the featured photo.
The ability to add a featured image directly through the Add Media window has been restored.
You can also add a featured image to a post through the box at the bottom of each post that says “Set featured image.”
The only reason I want to use the image editing tools is for photos that for some quirk will not play the right way, so I need to rotate them (usually phone images). I also resize and pre-edit beforehand.
I’ve just tried a new post (on rough seas using 2011) and just lost the post!
Seriously, thanks for your time, but it seems like making life harder for no added benefit. I’ll go cook something to eat ;)
roughseasinthemed – I’ve answered your rotation question in your other thread.
Thanks to both TT and kathryn – I can do everything as before, well except it seems to take longer and a lot more steps, but that isn’t your fault. I’m just left wondering why the need to change something that worked perfectly well. Anyway, thanks to both of you. Although I haven’t tried re-arranging a slideshow. Guess I will leave that one alone for a while….
