"top clicks" spam
-
In my stats page I noticed that I had a lot of clicks to these sites. These links don’t appear anywhere on my blog. Then I noticed that they also appear at the top of my “top clicks” widget on my blog footer.
A shows that these are also on these are the top clicks of over 11,000 other wordpress.com blogs.
I am certain that someone has found a way to fool the stats system.
Can the widget be changed to only allow links that actually appear on the blog? If not I will probably remove it, as these certainly are not the top clicks of my users.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I bet I know what it is: Adsense clickspam. Sometimes when people have an Adsense ad they pay per click, so their competitors pay spammers to click through hundreds of times, costing them a ton. If you do not have the AdFree UPgrade, I bet that’s what it is.

Thanks, that’s interesting. It does make the “top clicks” widget a bit useless without the AdFree upgrade. It would be good if it could exclude advertising clicks.

We’re definitely looking into this.
For now, please consider removing the Top Clicks widget, as you certainly wouldn’t want them to be getting free advertising off of your blog. ;)
