Topsy pings show up as Spam
I have received several “comments” from Topsy that appeared as Spam. I didn’t know what Topsy was as the time and now I am finding out it is a good thing to have Topsy pings appear in your comments. Can someone please shed some light on this topic?
Is there a way that Akismet could ignore it as spam?
Any insight would be appreciated.
The blog I need help with is ileane.wordpress.com.
Just Approve them. Subsequent pings will be automatically approved.
what’s the benefit of Topsy pings? I just keep them as spam.
If you don’t want them to be spam then just un-spam them and eventually akismet may realize they aren’t spam.
I’m trying to look out for the other bloggers that don’t realize that Topsy isn’t spam. I can’t tell you how many of those things I deleted (maybe 15 or more) because I didn’t know any better.
I’m just thinking that if they didn’t show up as spam to begin with….
Here is a link to an article I found on Tech Crunch
I so agree
Topsy and similar services are divisive. Some people hate the, some love them. Whether or not they are spam is up to you to decide.
Topsy technically isn’t a blog that’s posting my link within their written article. To me Topsy is only posting a link that’s automatically generated, that in turns link back to your blog. In that sense, maybe that’s why it’s labeled as spam. The site is cool but the pingbacks are just a waste and space fillers.
Thanks for all of your responses. At least if anyone searches Topsy in the forum they can find this thread.
